PWE Event Horizon or Splawn Streetrod?

Hey guys,

My main amp is a 20th ann. Bogner Shiva with EL34s. I play lots of originals and originals with the guys from super clean to crunchy tones to hard rock similar to anything from grung to 80s and 90s hard rock styles like Alice in Chains, Rush, Tool, STP, Godsmack, Van Halen. We are kind of all over. My SHiva can get it done, but I have the cash to grab another amp and I already know I prefer the Marshall vibe or something on that side of the fence.

Been looking at the new Splawn Streetrod and the PWE Event Hoeizon. The first thing that bothers me about the PWE EH is the lead boost on the footswitch does not add gain like with my Shiva. That is not a deal breaker because I can use an OD pedal if need be at times. The Splawn has that feature but I need to be happy with the tone.

What do you guys think of these two options and how they compare to my Shiva. Which would be more different, I am guessing the Splawn but I hate the thought of spending money on another new amp. :(
I will have an easier time finding a used Event Horizon and some say it is different enough from the Shiva to warrant having.

Splawn... no question.

Why, just curious!? You tried both? I get tired of people complaining Splawns are harsh. I can't imagine.....I mean an authentice Marshall can be aggreessive, so be it. :)

The pwe is a LOT more versatile but the splawn without a doubt is the more marshall like of the 2. I think you may be surprised at how quickly you can snag a used spawn too. Just post a want add over at tgp

Yea, the Splawn is true Marshall....but really I think you can do anything with a good Marshall! Might not need much else.
How is the PWE more versatile? The Streetrod can go from clean to Plexi to JCM 800 to modded 800.

Isn't the PWE basically just Fender and hot rod Marshall as well, and the PWE is similar to my 20th EL34 Shiva.

Which is better at home volumes and lower level jam volumes? I like amps that can work at ALL volumes. But I don't want to have to buy a digital amp for that.

I am a pwe fan boy

I always found splawns a little too bitey.

I own lots of real marshals too.

Really, so you found the Streetrod too bitey as well? I will admit I hate playing bitey amps.....but I like Bogner's take on the Marshall thing.

Was also looking at the Bogner Goldfinger but I find too much overlap from Bogner to Bogner so I went with middle of the road Bogner and got the 20th Shiva with El34s. I can get some similar tones as the GF and XTC, good enough for me. I was afraid the Event Horizon would be too Bognerish!

Then you don't want the Street Rod.

THe PWE has 2 channels that are voiced completely different from each other....it also has a built in attenuator with like 5 different settings for it....the thing has a SHITLOAD of different tones in it. The Splawn...its gonna get you a killer marshal tone..and thats about it...at least thats how my ProMod was. Dont get me worng, I LOVED my Splawn for what it does, it does EXTREMELY well, but its more a heavy duty rock amp and thats about it....at least in my experience...

When I did play the SR, it was nowhere near as bitey as other Splawns. It was very authentic Marshall to my ears.

Also considering the Bogner Goldfinger. :) :) :)

Well, some of you inw I finally got the PWE EH and it is one of the best amps I have ever played. Sort of like a cross between a Soldano and Bogner XTC. I was even able to dial in some Splawn type tones at a jam where we had a Splawn for comparison. So, yes, it can do Marshall tones.

Next, I think I am going to pick up a Mesa Royal Atlantic, what a killer amp. Has the throaty Mesa tone with the Marshall cut.

the way you were posting 'x, y, z or a splawn' over on the other boards, I knew you weren't going to end up getting one..lol...but as long as you're happy with what you got then it doesn't matter..enjoy the new toy!

I've found the same thing with the pro mod..I have one of each actually...I dig the pro mod for modern heavy downtuned stuff..but I don't think it's as versatile as my QR is

The PWE Event Horizon is a KILLER rock amp!
For sure, I just got one this week and it is one of best amps I have owned.

i never cared much for the splawns and to me they sound different then most marshalls. I would rather have the bogner that u already own then any of the amps u mentioned.

The PWE kills the Splawns I owned. Not close. PWE is killer.

Street Rod Head or Combo? Speaker has a lot to do with it.

Only PWE I've heard was in the process of frying its power tubes at Lugo's Ampfest, so not impressed so far... ;)

let's hear some clips! looked on youtube and there wasn't much to be had
