They say the modden channel is based off the same mod Randy had done at the Marshall factory. Apparantly RR was the only person to ever have a Marshall modded at the factory. To me, the modded channel sounded like a JMP with a distortion box set up for a boost pushing it. It had sort of weird grainy top end. But like I said, the high input on the bright channel sounds like a stock JMP.

The thing is, for someone like me who bridges their channels, having the high input on the normal channel is kind of the shaft. I dont want or need the modded channel. Those of you who dont like using a boost will probably dig it though.
Interesting. If it was thru new 75's I can understand the grainy thing.

I've never liked jumping the channels together, so this may be a cool amp to goof around with.

OK I got alittle info on the RR.....they are only making 100 units and list is $4k. Still waiting to see if my rep is getting any allocated for my territory.

You da man george
Looking at teh price list that may include the cabs too.....but it looks like they will be coming with 75's.

it says: 1959HWRR Stack :)

I know who is getting one if I can!

It would be cool if a real player and RR fan got one

BTW the 3250 is out, just too much.

I am interested in the white 2550 though :)

Barzini and I were blown away by the new RR model at NAMM. Sounds nothing like Randy's nasaly tone on the records, but IMO the best sounding pure/raw Marshall since the JCM800.

I tend to agree. Its definitely my favorite new Marshall so far. The bright channel sounded a lot like a stock JMP. I thought the stock channel had a sweeter sounding top end than the modded channel, but I need to hear this amp through greenbacks!

Do you know if all 4 inputs work? I liked how it sounded in the video, really thick.

I would absolutely LOVE one of these. Too bad they're making so few units

Randys tone on After Hours was pretty good

EXACTLY my point. Some little piss-ant TV studio in upstate New York was able to more accurately capture Randy's real tone than Max Norman was in a studio. Yet, internet guitar forums can't fall over themselves quickly enough to talk about how thin Rhoads tone was as you look back 25 years or so at it. I'm telling you guys, at the time no one was saying his tone was thin. Thin compared to what? Molly Hatchett, Scandal, Foreigner? Everyone was freaking over how much gain he had. He was really the first high gain guy that I was ever aware of.

Agree with pretty much all your arguments concerning RR's tone...frankly, back then "Tone" really wasn't an issue. Nobody that i know of..at least my friends who were players back then sat down and analyzed people's tone. As a guitarist back then most of us were more interested in what the players were doing as opposed to what the sounds were. Heck, back then if it was distorted and rocking then that was good enough. From a "tone" perspective back then, if you hooked into a OD pedal in the front end of an amp and it sounding good then you were on your way. Our biggest concern was how can we get more gain. At least that is my perspective from then...I've been playing since '77 so I feel I can speak on this issue.

For those wondering about Altec...at one point they were the PA company, many advancements in PA tech were brought on by Altec. Alot of players in the 70's used JBL's, Altecs and Celestions as well as Jensens and Fanes. Celestions were almost synonymous with Marshall back then...my how things have changed.

Agree, Thats the first thing i thought about referring to greenbacks. Also, I wish i had one my of strats to plug into it and get a feel for it with some single coil action.
