Really considering selling my Mark IV

The Bogner is a compressed amp as well. It is just voiced much differently than the VH4. More juicy and not as dry or tight.
I honestly think you will miss your Mark IV's lead channel once you get used to the XTC's Red channel. The XTC is a great amp, but the lead ch is its weakness IMO.

If you want "open" maybe try to check out a 20th Anniversary or a Classic XTC. More open and voiced more in the high mids and less low mids. Maybe look into some others like Soldano, modded Marshalls, etc also.

I disagree about the lead channel. I had an XTC, Mark IV and a IIC+ and preferred the XTC over both Marks. It's the only amp I miss. The XTC lead channel is fantastic and whilst it's not as focussed as the Mark IV, I personally prefer it. Plus, the Blue channel is out of this world good - you could do entire gigs on that one channel. I would get the XTC if it were me in this situation.

It's definitely compressed though but so is the Mark IV. Definitely look into the XTC classic/20th if you want more open. Or maybe just get a Shiva which is what I would get if I were buying an amp right now.

I also love the XTC's lead channel, but only when I'm playing rock rhythm or creamy leads. I just wish it was able to get a bit more aggressive and beefy, that's all. It is a great amp and I'd be happy with one any day. Just think the IV's lead channel is able to cover more ground sonically with the eq and all. It all depends on what you want though. I'm dying to try a 20 XTC w/ el34's.

I've also got an offer for an Elmwood Modena 60, I know NOTHING of these amps though!

Keep your MarkIV. Save up and then buy something else to play along with it.

Those elmwoods are BADASS amps. ...after playing one...I'd LOVE to have one.

i'd take a mark iv over an xtc any day. i don't like the xtc voicing at all and it's definitely not worth the money imo.

I haven't played a diezel for myself so i can't comment there.

have zach build you a titan. best of both worlds.

Have you sold it yet? Probably too little too late, but what kind of sound are you after exactly? I love my VH4 to death, but depending on your style and what kind of stuff you usually play it may not be your cup of tea...if you're a lead player I'd say stick with the Mark IV, but if you're hard rock/metal rhythm player it doesn't get much better than a VH4 IMHO. Never tried an XTC so I can't say anything about those, although I'd love to hear one someday for myself. I also prefer the cleans on channels 1/2 with some reverb in the loop over any mesa I've played, although I haven't tried a Lonestar which a lot of guys on the board seem to like...cheers,
