I think Hammett is in Metallica because he`s an easy going fellow.
There ain`t room for more ego in that band anyway, James and Lars are taking up the space and then some.

Cliff was a strong, opinionated person who also had a great understanding of music (remember they moved, because he didn`t want to live in LA), he probably would`ve poured oil in the water that is the egos of J&L, but when he passed...

Jason was a solid player, but he was firmly squeezed on AJFA. From then on, he was second fiddle. Robert was more or less bribed into the band

That`s probably the reason for Kirk being a part of the band for so long. He`s not standing in their way, and manages to not get too frustrated by Lennon and McCartney.

Hammett surfs out here in Hawaii, I think he lives here part of the time. I've seen him out there and never noticed any tramp stamp. lol. I don't think he has a tramp stamp.

Though Winger was pretty ghey, Reb ripped, and Rod Morgenstein is no slouch either. I totally dug Reb's tapping technique as opposed to everyone who was doing it like VH or Rhoads(Vai does the similar "rolling scale" approach too), and copped as much of it as I could...

Never wanted to duplicate the "nervous elk" vibrato, or jump up and down on my wah pedal, though...!

Saw Winger open for Cinderella (girlfriend at the time was waaaaay into Kip of course), and I found it interesting that every time Kip would be doing the twirls and posing, he'd stop playing mid-song and the bass line kept going ....all the screaming girls didn't care...

Reb Beach is an awesome player and is way better technically than Kirk will ever be. Sure he was in winger, and they get a lot of flack but hey i like some winger stuff and there were other great guitarists back in the day that played in some hair metal bands. Andy Timmons played in Danger Danger and Steve Vai played in Whitesnake and for DLR for an album and tour. Reb's done plenty of other stuff throughout his career but hey if playing in winger got him paid and got him laid then i cant blame him for sticking around.

Here is my take on this whole wonderful thread.

1) Kirk got lucky and sucks as a guitar player. While he does not inspire me I would not say he got lucky. Anybody here that has been out of their bedroom and actually played in a band knows that sometimes the most talented guy does not get the gig. Chemistry has a lot to do with success, and especially success of any longevity. Kirk is probably a perfect fit in the Metallica machine. I have liked Metallica since the beginning till today. Not all there stuff but I definitely think they are a major musical influence on a lot of players out there.

2) Reb sucks and is gay because he was in Winger. Actually Reb has played with everyone from Fiona to Alice Cooper. He has been a great studio musician and that is not something that every guitar player can do by itself. He has chops, he has melody and bottom line he is a fantastic musician. Anybody that says different defines a musician differently than I do. Was Winger a hair band and is that gay, well that depends on a lot of factors about who you are, not who they are.

I understand bashing on other guitar players and music as we all have styles and tastes that differ. However you look at it though neither Reb nor Kirk really care what any of us think, because while we are typing they are living the life we all have probably wanted at one time or another. They have made music their career at a level of success that has us talking about them on this forum. I doubt the pros have a forum that discuss Donbarzinis sack size, or Redrols lack of overall taste, or Shawn not needing to post about the USA since he does not live here, or Chubtones great influence on all of us since he basically rules! Get my point, well even if you don't Peace!!
