Recommend a Delay and Reverb pedal for 80s metal

Especially when Effects loops usually run in Parallel with the dry signal

99% of people can't hear a difference between analog and digital on their phone speaker
most effects loops these days are serial in my experience .....

amps from the 90's had a lot of parallel loops especially Mesa's ..... when everyone was going full rack ...

the reason I stay pure analog is simple ............ when ever I've tried anything digital on my board .... it always sucks the organic feel and tone away ...

from what I understand this is why parallel loops were introduced .... to maintain the feel and tone of the pre amp and then blend the wet signal into it ... before hitting the power section

I tried that .... thought it sucked .

now .....are there digital units out there that are insanely good ..... hell yeah .... but I found they never mixed or blended well with my analog stuff

always volume dropping ...... sound artifacts that weren't pleasing etc etc ....

but that's just me ..... I'm no tone preacher ....... if stuff works for you it works for you ...

Give me some examples of these analog delays... I'll have to try both digital and analog and see what I like best. My Joyo Analog Delay is apparently not analog but digital.

These days you can get digitally controlled but pure analog signal path BBD Delays ...
My favorites are
JHS Panther ( the older light blue one )
Seymour Duncan Vapor Trail Deluxe
DOD Rubberneck
Ibanez Echo Shifter

I'm ditching modelers and going tube amp. Which reverb and delay do you recommend for the loop of my amps? I've always played them without but discovered I had a cheap Joyo Analog Delay and Donner Yellow Fall that I forgot about. They sounded really good. Would a more expensive delay actually sound better?

This would be for 80s metal like Dokken, Ozzy, etc.
I’m going to grab a visual sound h20….not sure if that qualifies for what you’re looking for but I have wanted one forever….

I'm curious... These digital pedals like the SDE-3000/Eventide don't suck the tone out of an amp like modelers do they? I assume they are like rack gear in a pedal. I've got the FM3 but I do notice it sucks a tiny bit of tone.. not like the Helix though.

They had the Boss SDE-3 on sale for $150 the other day but I missed it. Is it a good rendition of the 3000?
Anything you put in the signal path, and I do mean anything, will alter the tone. You have to decide whether or not you like the alteration.

For a small footprint in one box, the EQD Dispatch Master.
I have 2 Dispatch Masters and cannot give enough praise. Yes. limited tweakability - but plenty of adjustment well within the 'sweet spot' where most guitarists want that little bit of width for 80s style rhythms and leads. The thing that blows me away is how incredibly 'clean' this sounds for a small, simple stomp.

With delay I think defining what features you want is the most important. Do you want presets or tap tempo, or modulation, or ?

For a simple cheap option I like the TC Flashback II. Lots of variety and analog dry through. You really want analog dry through to preserve your amp tone.

What do you mean by clean? I play metal.

Man, modern modelers are so good at this sh*t... I am thankful I can set my amps up to my own satisfaction w/ one. Pedals and pedal boards are such a PITA. I generally put a couple of analog drives in front and then modeler is everything else.

Man.... lol. I have been using my pedals more lately because my Fractals have been annoying me with their feel lately. However, I highly prefer my delay and reverb to be in parallel, and really prefer my mod in parallel with those, but I am OK if its not. Trying to set everything up like that is such a pain in the ass. I have been looking at different ways I could do this, but I dont really want a giant pedal pedal that costs more than my pedals just to set everything up for parallel analog dry through routing. It is definitely way easier just to turn on the Fractal and route everything the way I want it. I am currently fighting with all this....

What I mean is that it really sounds like a high quality studio effect - where some stomps sort of sound like they toss a blanket over the sound for lack of a better explanation. And when coupled with overdrive / gain / distortion - any clipping or mud in the delay effect only gets compounded.

I was on my phone earlier, so I will say more. I do think features is by far more the most important consideration. Tap, Modulation, etc.... and then I think type of delay is second. Do you want clear repeats, or something that gets darker and grungy? For example, I recently built some BBD analog delays, and I just dont love them. They get very dark. The Yellow Fall and similar are OK, but I think they are dark also. Those are PT2399 based delays. Digital chip that is voiced to sound analog. I have found I prefer digital delays with filters and mod. I have a SDE-3000D, 2290P, Flashback II, etc.... I have far more fun playing with those than the analogs or the 'analog voiced' versions.

Reverb is kind of the same. Features first, and then type. Do you want Hall, Plate, Room, Spring, etc.... Kind of like the Flashback II, I like the Hall of Fame 2 for a good all-rounder. I also have 2 of the Plethora X1 pedals which can be loaded with either of their programs. I also think the UaFx pedals sound great. I have a Heavenly and an Evermore, and have considered a Golden Reverberator.

Where I struggle is I really prefer delay and reverb in parallel. It keeps the sound much clearer with high gain. I am looking at a Source Audio Collider potentially, because it has delay and reverb in parallel, with an analog dry through. It could be a one-stop shop.

Another option is you could get a parallel mixer and run the FM3 in parallel. This would keep your signal analog so that it doesn't change the tone. This is how I run my Axe II and FM3 when I use them with my tube amps because I dont like running straight through them because they change the feel.

The SDE-3000D is analog dry through, which is kind of like having an analog mixer built in. The Eventide units digitize your tone, so they will change it. All the big Boss pedals are analog dry through.

MusicomLab Parallelizer. As compact as such a pedal could possibly be, lets you put three stereo effects in parallel and control the mix of each.

Yeah, that seems to be the number 1 choice if I were to go that route. I just wish it were smaller and simpler.

I was thinking about a RJM Micro Line Mixer, which would work awesome, but then I realized without a way to shut off the loops I would have level issues using the normal bypass switches of the pedals, so I dont think that would work.

Analog delay doesn’t sound or feel the same as digital on high gain. It’s ok for clean tones but it’s just not the same with gain.

This is interesting. I was using my FM3 in the loop last night and thinking it wasn't that bad. Then I changed it out for my cheap Joyo pedal and it sounded a lot better. The amp is more open and even a little louder.. but definitely a lot more open.

So if I get one of these parallel mixer pedals it should let the amp breath and sound more open with the FM3?

I did a lot of listening to YT videos last night and I do like digital delays and reverbs more. I noticed the SDE3000 is just two racks in a pedal. Should I also be looking at Multi-FX Rack Units?
