I`m clueless when it comes to Mesa Boogies but with all the love they get here and my current love for 6L6 amps I`m getting an itch. Most I see have rows and rows of knobs and built in eqs. What might be the most basic old or new Mesa head with a pair of 6L6s that just kicks booty for classic rock/ Hard Rock , takes boost/OD pedals and won`t break the bank to heavily

Mark III/IV used for 1k or less. GC.com, 45 days to try and return if you don't like. V30s are great with either of them. Also EVs.

Electra Dyne

Mark IV. Thank me later.
What he said.

Used ones will not break the bank.
They are very reliable.
Mine takes pedals very well (all three channels).
Handles classic rock fine. No trouble.
Clean channel is dynamite.

Mesa made lot's of different amps but when you think MESA, they built their name on Mark Series and Rectifiers. On the lead channels of a Mark III or IV you really won't need an OD pedal. The rhythm channels of each are good with OD's. With Recto's I like to boost them. Recto's and Mark's are really different but I lean towards Marks because they just SING for leads and are great at ANY volume. Recto's IMHO need a little volume and sound huge. Recto's were THE amp in the 90's on up to the mid 2000's. For chunk they really kill.

First thing though, you CAN NOT tweak a Mesa like a Marshall. It will sound like shit. Checkout some threads on settings.

You better like popping footswitches. At least with the Recto line.

Dude...who are you??? Not sure why your are discussing popping footswitches. The 4 mesas I owned never had that issue. Maybe a tech is in your future????

Sorry I offended you. The popping is an issue with recto footswitches due to the static that builds up in the relays. My bad.

So many great ones. I'd recommend the Mark IV, Mark V, Mark V:25, Lonestar and Royal Atlantic. Love all of those. I did not like the Stiletto.

.50 caliber plus is essentially a mark 3 dumbed down. Half the price too.

That might be right up my alley , thanks

I just picked up the 5:50 express + and so far it's great ! Haven't spent enough time with it to dial it in exact but I can tell it will do what I want. I just need to find time to mess with it more.

ElectraDyne would be what I bought if I was wanting a boogie.

And it's so different from most Mesa's. And you dial it in much like a Marshall which isn't the case with Marks or Recto's. The ED has a nice tone with MUCHO balls but not a lot of preamp gain. It's loud a hell but takes OD pedal really nice. I just wish Mesa included an FX loop button on the footswitch and wish it had a just a bit more stock gain. When I played one i always had a BB Preamp on.

Personally, I dig the Single Rectifier, of all the rectifers.. 50 watts.

You already have most of them listed here,, I will throw in DC-5, Heartbreaker, and Tremoverb.

I've owned most of them at one point or another. My favorites are the 2 channel Triple Rec, DC-10, DC-5, and I currently have a Royal Atlantic 100 that just does everything that I need.
