Recommend me a Mesa

DC 5 or 10 is a great way to go if you want to jump into a Boogie on the cheap.
The first channel alone is worth the coin.

forgot to hit quote on the ones above me, but still loving my Mark iv years later

As a lifelong jcm800 user, I've always liked the dual recs as well . Not the same mid emphasis, but loud, unruly monsters just the same. I can dial in the orange crunch to get real marshallish, or mean and focused like the mark III. That and boosted modern is just a crushing metal tone. Very versatile Imo.

Based on what you said I would say skip the Mark IV.

It's my favorite Mesa that I've played, but for what you seem like you're looking for the Electra Dyne would probably work best. I would also say a DC-5 or .50 cal +. They run like $500-600 and are simplified Mark derivatives, sitting somewhere between a Mark and Recto tone wise on the OD channels.

For simplistically in the Mesa line a early 2 channel Dual Recto, or a Mark III would be great. I have a Roadster and love it. Its one of my favorite amps and it can honestly cover a ton of ground. It did however take some tweaking for me to get it to where I love it but that being said its a keeper. I am normally a modded plexi/800 fan but this amp hangs with the best and has an amazing clean channel to go with it.

DC-5 50 watts, 2 ch. 6L6 tubes. They come in heads and combos. The DC-10 is the 100w version.

I have the combo version that I pair with a widebody ext cab. I think I paid $550 for it several years back. Killer little amp.

I've been gassing for the JP2C quite badly. I know the Mark series are a tweakers delight and I'm not a tweaker. Luckily the manual has Petrucci's settings so I hope I can get some instant gratification and not be frustrated if I pull the trigger as Inplan on doing in the next few days.

A stiletto can be had for $850 used and they cover a lot of ground. I played a Dual Rec for 8 years and it is very versatile if you use the mode switches on the channels and find what you are looking for. I've thought about picking a DR up again myself. I did not like the Single Rec so much though but they can be had for cheap too.

You better like popping footswitches. At least with the Recto line.

Dude...who are you??? Not sure why your are discussing popping footswitches. The 4 mesas I owned never had that issue. Maybe a tech is in your future????
Sorry I offended you. The popping is an issue with recto footswitches due to the static that builds up in the relays. My bad.

Sorry to come off that way...I do apologize, it is an open forum for those to post what they want. I hope the "popping" issues you have get resolved. !

Mesa Quad Preamp/2:90 Power amp is an amazing combo.

I also love the 2 channel Rev F Dual Recto's

No problem, man. I'm actually wanting a Roadster, lol. A boosted Rectifier is probably the heaviest guitar sound known to man.

Here's a Stiletto Ace head AND 4x12 cab for 1K. It's in NJ. If anyone wants it I'd gladly go get it for you and keep it at my house until you can come get it or I'd meet halfway. :D

The early Marks, 1 - IV are tweaker amps. The Mark V, Mark V25 & V35 are not. They have only great tones and I find it difficult to get a bad tone like I could get with earlier Marks. There is a Mark V25 for sale on the boogie board forum for $900.00 and the full size Mark V amps have been selling sub $1500 for a while and I've seen them for $1200 or less here and there. My first Boogie was a new condition Mark IV that I bought at a pawn shop for $650. Once I went to the Mark side, I've never gone back!

The popping thing is a known problem with the recto footswitch.

Anyway, As a current Mark IV (and former dual rec) owner, I will recommend the Electra Dyne;)
