A friend of mine is opening a music school for kids (6-16 years old) with a focus on rock music. She needs several practice amps - both guitar and bass - for the classrooms. I don't know anything about the cheaper end of the spectrum - my practice amps are Bogner Uberschall and Diezel VH4. :) I was thinking of going with Line6 modeling stuff - like Spider but perhaps you can suggest something better (as in less expensive and decent sounding).

Some things we are looking for in guitar practice amps are a 12" speaker, at least 2 channels (footswitchable), gain channel preferably of the modern variety (or at least hard rock type), inexpensive (we're fine with buying used but the amps must be under $200, ideally - under $130).

I don't know much about bass practice amps, so any suggestions are welcome.

"How was music school today?"
"Hi mommy, it was awesome! I got to play with a Hairy Brown Eye and a Pink Taco."

I would go with the Orange or Blackstar variety. You can also contact a distributor for a better deal on a school purchase.

 I am digging my Blackstar Fly-3 I keep in the living room. Small enough to practice on and not disturb anybody. They have other models as well that are pretty great for the price.

Crate vintage club series are amazing with a speaker swap. I did this video:

Best $$$ to tone ratio for practice amps IMO. Low volume jamming is amazing. The teacher won't get the ear fatigue like other modern combos. I used cheap pedals in the vid but I was hardly over driving it. Without the boosts there would just be slightly different. The bulk of the distortion is the amp.

I have a Blackstar HT-5 but I haven't used it since I got the Torpedo Reload lol. Recently, my practice amp has been a 1987x Plexi haha

Vox Valvetronix stuff has been my modeler for practicing for many years. Slayed the line 6 stuff I had, and I like it more than the Peavey Vypyr I tried,

Keep it solid state, obviously. Kids will wreck a set of tubes quick.

Something off of craigslist.
