Hey guys,

My current set up is the following:

Baron K2
Baron XTC
EVH 5150 III
Fortin Cali Marshall (December)
Fortin Natas (April)
Mesa/Boogie Dual Recto (2010)
Peavey 5150 EVH
INSERT AMP HERE :D

Available Cabs:

Mesa/Boogie Rectifier 412B (V30s)
Engl Pro 412B (V30s)
Stone Age 412B (Heritage Greenbacks)
EVH 5150 III 412B (INSERT SPEAKER HERE) :D

Take a look for the bold text with the smileys. That's where I need help.

I need something with a "Vintage" or "Jangly" tone. I was thinking Orange, Bad Cat, Vox, Fender, Bogner... I don't really know, and I need some advice.

I also need some new speakers. I tried MC90s and K100s and didn't give with either. I was thinking G12H30s next.

Let me know what you guys think.

Cheers,

-Greg

Look for a VOX AC30 HW 2x12 if you can even find one of those used... or take a risk on the new Handwired AC30's that they are about to release!!! They look so bad ass in that fawn white tolex!!!

+1 Those new Vox Handwired AC30's look great.

As for speakers. G12H30's are a good cheap solution. Otherwise for the max Jangle look at Alnico Blues, Alnico Golds, or scumicos.

Vox is always a good bet for a more affordable yet possible Jangly sound.

Out of the bunch, the only ones that could be possibly construed as "jangly" would be the Vox or the Fender. A Bogner Duende could be something that works for you too...

But, I guess more importantly, what is it you're playing, style of music, band or solo, bedroom or gig, guitars and FX, etc.

+1 to all of this. couldnt have said that post any better myself.

definately look into the blue or gold's for speakers.

IMHO i would recommend H30's in the 5150 cabinet and get a 2x12 with one of each of the alnico's for a handwired Vox AC30.

If you can also foot the bill, scumnico speakers go great with the VOX as well!

Check out Savage amplifiers. Like the best Vox mixed with the best Fender sound in a combo. Then grab some alnico celestions or scumnicos and let in jangle brother!

I kind of have a hard time getting those jangly tones from 4x12's.
I would look for either a combo, or a 2x12 cab with a variable back panel.

Thanks for the suggestions.

So is that G12H30 anniversary speakers you're recommending or the heritage 30s like the 55hz ones that :endrix used?

What's the difference between the HW Vox and the regular AC30 combo with alnico blues? Isn't the pcb combo likely to be more reliable? I know the regular one is cheaper.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have my treble booster already too.

Here's what I'd be looking for:

- Open back combo and/or cab
- 6L6 loaded power section
- Minimal gain stage
- Alnico speaker(s)

Done.

id recommend el84 power output section to consider too.

jangly is the only word i can describe it. put that through an open back 2x12 with the alnico's and you can jangle the night away!

Maybe check out an Alchemist or Electrodyne with some GH30's..?

+1  Definitely for the smaller output combo's, a clean set of EL84's will sound choice!!

The G12H30 is a nice speaker, but it's got nothing on the Celestion Alnico Golds. As for the Blues versus the Golds, the Blues are 15W a piece, yes, you read correct - 15W, whereas the Gold's are rated at 50W. The Vox tie 2 Blues together to get a 30W series configuration, and it breaks up nicely. I retrofitted a Peavey Classic 30 with top-end glass, a re-build on its PCB, and installed 1x12" Celestion Gold. It's a beautiful sounding amp - and cheap!! The glass in it are the preferred series from thetubestore.com, both the 7025S pre's and the EL84 quartet.

I have a session space with a lot of gear - for cleans??? I've got a LOT of cats ALWAYS going directly to this crappy lil' combo that I've rebuilt because, due to the changes made, it sings like none other. Just saying, you can do this too without paying for Vox name or the like.

That's the info I can give you.

I was talking about the anniversary G12H30's, since they are inexpensive compared to the Alnico Golds. If you are going to spend the money on the heritage G12H30's, I would just spend a little more and go with the Alnico Golds.

Also check out a Janglebox pedal. I have one on my wish list. R.S.M has one, maybe he will chime in. He is a big Vox and Rickenbacker fan....

I'm GASing for that new AC15 for $600. Damn do I want one. A/B with my Mesa for clean/mid-gain tones, and use it on it's own for my alt. Rock and blues stuff.
