Rev. Blue vs. Twin Jet?

I've decided with certainty that I'm going to get an Uberschall. What I'd like to hear about is - for those who have played both amps extensively - which do you prefer and why?

I really love the tone of the rev. blue, but it sounds like the Twin Jet might be tighter. I don't care about the first channel at all in this comparison.

I have had every version of the Uber. IMO the twinjet is by far the best version. The twinjet eq is much more flexible, which to me is great. You can dial in more and better tones than on the past versions. Just overall a more flexible head. It also doesnt have that flub to it that I always hated. Yes it is a tighter head. I know you said you dont care about channel 1, but you will love it on the tj. I dont miss the channel 1 clean at all. Channel 1 on the tj to me sounds like a modded marshall. If you have the cash to buy whatever you want I say get the tj.

Thanks for the reply! Can you dial in the Twin Jet to sound like a tighter rev. blue? Or is that the whole point?

Thanks for reviving a very old thread! I was wondering why 'TheMagicEight' was asking for difference between the Uber's. He's already bought both (I think), even modified the TJ for EL-34's and is very happy with it.

I've had both. I found the Rev.Blue a bit limited - the 1st channel was more or anything an FX channel - it was nice - clean and thick and toneful - but it was like the red headed stepchild to channel 2. So, I played the Rev.Blue as a one trick pony - Channel 2. I don't like FX screwing my tone, so I use them sparingly and that meant, for the most part, channel 1 saw little to no action at all. Then the TJ came out - it was sick. I was in love with the newly voiced 2nd channel, but was floored with the 1st channel - it's just awesome...

So, glad I have the TJ. Am just figuring out my next couple paydays and am going for the 20th Anni XTC or the latest 101B either with A/AB option... I'm loving the Bogner tone!!!

Well I only have owned the Twin Jet, but I have modded it to EL34s and am very, very happy with it!

I love the tone of Rev. Blue models, but the Twin Jet gives me that awesome first channel, plus master depth and presence. I get Rev. Blue tone when I want it, but have no trouble dialing out the flub that people complain of. Awesome amp all around!

I've been playing ubers for almost 6 years, I owned 4 of the rev blue version. So I bought a twin jet to compare to it and after having both in the room and playing them all the time I decided I liked my rev blue with a boost better than the twin jet. I also tried to dial in the tj to sound like my rev blue but I wasn't able to.

I know my rev blue is limited and doesn't have as many tones, i think it sounds bigger and warmer and it also sounds more compressed and more saturated in the gain and with a boost it takes away that loose lowend.
The tj has more cut and is tighter and more agressive, ch1 can do some marshally stuff and can also sound pretty heavy too. I think most people will like the tj better but I wasn't one of them.

How about 6550's+EL34's

If you go with 6550's you may as well use KT88's. If you've ever had a marshall that has been modded to go from 34's to 6550's, then you will know that it becomes more strident and glassy, and you've lost that nice power amp saturation. 6550's and KT88's sound like dogshit the minute that you approach power amp clipping as opposed to EL34's.

If you've ever had a marshall that has been modded to go from 34's to 6550's, then you will know that it becomes more strident and glassy, and you've lost that nice power amp saturation. 6550's and KT88's sound like dogshit the minute that you approach power amp clipping as opposed to EL34's.

EL34's are a whole lotta class in a little bit o'glass.

Here's one little trick that I've found out about the blue revision - keep the master volume max'ed out at all times. PROS - massive increase in low and low mid frequencies. The fizz goes away. Makes teles and strats sound like something Jeff Beck would play through. Takes boost and OD nicely. keep the mids close to off and dial in presence between 10 and 2 o'clock .CONS - makes a very loud and nasty popping when switching between channels. But the twin Jet is still a neat piece, I would'nt even consider it as being the same amp, the two channels (1 in particular) sound very different, but cool. I'd just love to hear what it sounds like with EL34's.
