I’ve never tried one, but I’m a bit surprised at the feedback.

Like I said I’ve never even saw one in person but damn is the worst rated brand on RT ?

WoW …The Revv threads always go this way on here so I’m not surprised. Ive had a few generator amps , mk2 / mk3 etc. I like them a lot for modern metal , they handle lower tunings really well. They have a tight and refined sound. They are not raw and not very aggressive but sound very modern and polished if that makes sense.

Ha ha ha. Another Revv bash thread.

The amps sound great. I have a MKII 120 and it is great. It is a modern amp, not an 800, not a Plexi not a Mark 2c+...... It is a Revv that sounds like a Revv, modern, tight, smooth and aggressive, etc..... It is a modern amp. Period.

Damn.

Looks like Ken Susi as well... but that tone doesn't sound that impressive, TBH. His EVH video sounded better to me.

the gain structure just sounds kind of raggedy to me, the palm mutes seem kind of soft, theres a lpf sounding dullness in the high end.. they do sound like grittier friedmans to me and friedmans just arent my thing but lots of people love em :dunno:

Speaking of Friedman’s, I thought they were sounding better these days? Wtf?

ive owned almost all of the 20w friedmans, the jj jr was my least favorite. just dont plan on using his production amps for modern metal unless ur eqing in the loop

That might be Ola's worst video ever. That amp sounds nothing like that. You're doing something wrong if you cant play modern metal with that amp.

Weird, Ola is one of the few that sound like I do through the few amps we both have. This thing is a big OOF

Yeah I mean I usually love his videos but this one just seems way off. I've had the Jr and thought with a boost, it crushed for any kind of metal. I currently have the JJ-100 and it is even better yet.

The Revvs I heard sound fine, but in a “that’s a distorted guitar in the mix” kind of way. Nothing very noteworthy.

I don't understand why so many comparisons to Friedman but I must say they have pretty great sounding amps and pedals - though not really uniquely flavored. You can often recognize a Marshall JVM, Friedman JJ, Mesa Rectifier, etc., but Revv amps don't really have a unique character.

Revv offers the D20 & G20 amps that are kept affordable, feature-packed, and also use 6v6 valves as opposed to el84s that most smaller amps use. 6V6s have a bit more girth, headroom, and balanced lows & highs (though if an amp is not designed well, 6V6s can sound a bit dark). It's great that you can get the versatility, utility, volume, and great vanilla tone without having to donate blood.

Their 7/40 amp is probably the best sounding I've heard from them so far, but it's in the upper price range so I'd rather spend that kind of money on an amp with a more unique character. That's just me personally but it's still a great sounding, versatile amp. I love that you can easily get a nice range of clean to crunch with it. Having said this, I'd probably snag one if they could be had around $1600.

Revv offers good quality and variety so it's great they have some market share. If I'm not mistaken, Revv amps are made in Canada. Hopefully some other builders will emerge soon and offer top quality amps and guitars that are not made in China or India.

Of course they are good.
It's more a matter of whether a guitar amplifier is right for you or not. :)

I love the Generator 120 Mark III.
I can't find an amp that can do all of what it can do for my needs covering so many styles and considering it's a tube head. Most amps seems to specialize in one style. I love my Bogner 20th Shiva, but it doesn't do the really high gain aggressive styles.

While it can be tight, you can certainly set it to not be tight!

I love that I can get the amazing clean, Marshall like crunch tinea and high gain aggression and chug all in one tube amp. Plus I can run direct if I like or use it as a tube head with a 212 or my favorite, a 412!

I'm not a fan of the Friedman JJ but do like the BE Deluxe.

I've looked at other multi channel amps and none were able to give me what I wanted.

I wish Bogner made a do it all amp. I'd love that.

Great amps.

I think people are being too harsh for no reason.

Other amps I'd like to check out though are the KSR Genesis or Colossus.
I'd also like to try an Engl Powerball II. That amp is also 4 channels, seems to sound amazing and is versatile! It's not just a metal amp.

Either way, Revv amps sound killer.

The Revv I played was thick, chewy and responsive.

Glenn Fricker likes Revv. They even made a Glenn Fricker signature pedal together.

Too bad Tim Henson doesn't use Revv.

:D

As much as I love the Revv, being a Bogner fan, I bet I would love a Bogner Ecstacy 20th Anniversary.
3 channels plus 2 boosts!
It would match my Shiva 20th Anniversary.

Channel 4 or Red of the Gen 120, Mk III remind me a lot of a blend of a Bogner Ecstacy and Uberschall. Very distinct, like this whallop in the lows and low mids.
