I'm in. More expensive gear = better playing, even for Johnnie boy! I'll pay for some exotic wood head cases - those improved my playing most!

Steve

I can confirm that one, rare wood headshells harvested by moving third world tribes = TONE.
and CHOPS! As soon as I got my black limba, egyptian mahogany and flamed maple head case, I was able to alternate pick "Flight of the Bumblebee" at 320 bpm! My puppy requests it every night from my spare bedroom and it always ends in deafening howling of approval!

Steve

Why of course chops, the headshell now allows me more time for my Robert Mondavi to properly breath because of prolonged glances at the beauty that is my amp.

dude, these posts are awesome - you are definitely a man on a mission

ha! this is fascinating because after hanging out with Uli Jon Roth for 3 days and having the pleasure ( more pain!) to sub tech for him while his own tech was late on arrival on one show, i couldve believe what I was dealing with! At least John Norum has a pedal board! Uli travels with a suitcase that looks like something from the 70's and its literally a pile of cheap cables and cheap pedals thrown in! He actually borrowed my MXR Carbon Copy which i happened to have on hand because the two that he had were non functional due to not taking good care of them. the other winner of pedal was a beat up Octavia pedal that didnt even have a bottom seal on it and had foam taped to it to avoid electrical shock. Dunlup wah was a standard cheapy and digitech whammey was barely used. there was a tube screamer in there too that was just purchased at the local guitar center, but rarely used. His Amps were a 1959 Super Lead Reissue and Framus Cobra both set at clean stock setting, but so loud that Im positive you could damage your ear drums if u sat in front of cab. Meanwhile he makes Yngwie look like a puppy dog when it comes to demands abd controlling behavior. Patch cords are from radio shack, its ridiculous and nothing ever goes smooth in hoooking up his sky guitar ( sophisticated PU system that has its own external power source). The good news is that he sounded amazing and played shit that would make your head spin! I got my balls busted so hard, I almost said fuck it, but later he gave me a hug and said did u have fun? : )

Ant

that is some awesomeness there

Cognac and a Dumble... Throw in a hand leather-bound book, and you got yourself a party!
Indeed, sir! My fine vintage silk smoking jacket, His Majesty Reserve cigar from Gurkha and Baccarat Crystal Perfection Cognac Glass also add to the ambience...

I'm sorry, but the offer is only open to Mr. Norum at this time... peasant...

he makes good money. let him buy his own stuff. You cant be responsible for him. he's a grown man. Your heart was in the right place though.

He can't make that good of money. IF HE DID he would spend it on some hipper amps and pedals that are the flavor of the month right now. At least you see my efforts for what they are, heartfelt. Does anyone know John? If so, can you link him to some forums or at least the gear review section on HC?

hey Curt. I have a rockman half space chorus and I like that predelay effect and stereo seperation it gets, but as a chorus itself its kinda weird. You got anything with a great predelay for that wide sound that also does a decent chorus,

Jerry,
Let me tell you, that 1/2 space Rockman Chorus sounds freaking huge for splitting two amps in stereo. That was the secret weapon of many 80's guitarists for splitting two amps in stereo. Behind the Lexicon PCM-41 and 42 and the Roland SDE-3000, that was the unit for that same sound for people on a budget. I haven't used one in years, but that thing will do THAT sound in spades. Heck, if you don't like it please donate it to Mr. Norum as it is MUCH more difficult to hunt down than that CE-5 he is using. Even if it's not that expensive, ELUSVE is something that must contribute greatly to achieving killer tones, otherwise why would we all love to chase "elusive" too?

ill be keeping it but maybe use it with another chorus, the scholz for stereo split and some other one for chorus. it is a really cool sound. that predelay makes me sound like a rock star baby yeah !!!!!!!!!!!!!

MONDAVI? :gethim:

Perhaps if you'd mentioned a fine Cabernet from a small batch wizard like Lusso from Allora Vineyards we could continue this conversation, but obviously sir, you are no man of wealth and taste... peasant... be gone!

So when are you going to step up to the plate and start stocking real equipment like the AxeFxUltra? Could you imagine if he had one of these units at his disposal? He could sound like pedals he didn't even know he needed, until the next firmware release, then he would sound even better then the pedals he was supposed to sound like. I am sure of this as his tech's cousin's brothers friend, who briefly dated a Malaysian hooker, demo's these units behind the local dairy queen and told me it's true.

At least Norum is using the right guitar for hard rock.

But Chub, did you see my thread? I think we are think along the same lines. :D

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=87614

First of all Dan, I do NOT appreciate your RIP OFF thread about Norum and his gear. Sure yours was posted yesterday and mine not until today, but I still think you somehow ripped me off by knowing I would do this thread today. I will be watching your posts in the future and do hope for more originality out of them.

That being said, I think your whole point is the exact opposite of mine. You seem to be implying that we are the ones in the wrong here and that what Norum ( and Rhoads, and Sykes and Zakk) is doing playing the bad era Gibsons and pedestrian Marshalls and pedals shows that somehow we are misguided. Oh poor danyeo and Norum and Akira. danyeo, you seem to be losing some faith in your forum path. You have an Anderson and modded Marshalls. Your hipness is indisputable. Your choices bulletproof. AND your amp is modded by a guy not even in this country. Difficult in obtaining increases cool factor. Some say your guy received some inspiration from a dead guy. How much cooler does that make it? Don't lose faith brother. We are the ones that are enlightened as our wallets are lightened. We are the ones that are way cooler than rock stars. We all know that. We just have to help the rock stars to know that.

So in warning, I recommend you remove your rip off thread full of disinformation before I have to alert the proper authorities.

I am using a TC Electronic unit for delay and reverb in the loop of my amp. There is probably a much better unit that costs much more, but I haven't purchased it.

I honestly don't post much lately because I am embarrassed.

This post almost made me spill a precious drop of my Louis XIII... You sir, SHOULD be embarrased...

Actually, about those modded Marshalls........... Needed the cash.

what?

he doesn't have to wait 2 years for his amp?

WHAT???? WE MUST SHOW HIM THE LIGHT!!

In all seriousness, while I get what Curt is driving at, I'm not sure these posts are relevant. For most people here, guitar, tone, playing, whatever is a hobby. A way to blow off a little steam. Many people here have some spare cash. So they like to collect and try and trade and sell expensive, hand-made shit. And they like to compare the shit and talk about the subtle differences in tone like wine freaks. And maybe they'd like a nice exotic wood hard shell case so their wives don't make them move their amps out of the family room. And maybe... they spend more time ogling all this shit than playing through it. And maybe... they could get the same tone from WAY, WAY cheaper used gear and maybe, they'd sound WAY, WAY better if they practiced more instead of gear hunting... and perhaps, they've never performed outside of their spare room and never recorded anything... etc., etc. etc...

To this I say... SO WHAT?

If buying and trading and tone searching and obsessing is what you like to do at then end of a hard day of work and wife and kids, etc... and it gives you some joy, then GOOD FOR YOU! As long as you aren't blowing Junior's college fund or putting yourself in debt, more power to ya! Life is tough - enjoy your hobby...

Thank You. Now... back to my cognac...
