There was a post about it on gesrslutz but Jules took it down. I don't know why, don't know if he wasn't sure of the facts...

One of my all time favorites. His work in the early to mid 80's inspires me to this day. I had never heard of him until I read the Randy Rhoads memorial issue of Guitar Player magazine in 1982 or 1983. Randy cited Gary as an influence and I went out and bought "Corridors of Power". I dug Gary from that point until he softened up too much.

I'm sorry to hear he has passed as I always held out hope he would return to his early form. Such an amazing phraser. One of the all time best at phrasing in my opinion and what's more important than phrasing? Sad news.

That pretty much mirrors my experience and thoughts...RIP Gary.

Its not nice posting after a long time for a reason like this...
But i'm really sad tonight..
Gary Moore was the reason i picked up the guitar many years ago..I owe him so much..
He always was and forever will be my favorite musician..

Again i'm sorry for intruding like this..But if you can't share this with fellow guitar players, then i guess that leaves noone..
R.I.P. Mr. Moore..

Take care everybody..
Alex

Completely out of the blue. As far as I know he was as healthy as can be. I wonder what could have happened.

RIP, Gary Moore...one of the best ever.

Wow this sucks! Gary was a huge hero when I started out and he will be missed! Just a monster player with massive tone and great note choice. RIP !!!

Take care, Alex. It's so short, this life we have.

The first solo I learnt from A to Z. It took a lot of rewinding on the tape deck, but I got it in the end. I learned so much from picking that one solo.

Thank you for the music, Gary.

Truly one of the great ones... One of my all time favorites.. The guy had it all. Tone, technique, master vibrato, everything
What a strange musical journey his life was. I followed his career from the earliest days till the end when he seemed to be at peace with the blues stuff he came full circle to at the end.
I just cant believe it..
RIP brother, you will be missed

Hi Alex, we share the same sadness I think . . .

I remember so many things - the first time I saw him use a Soldano on stage in Dortmund 21 years ago (the blue lights from the distance . . . so I got one later), and earlier - how blown away I was when I heard the Wild Frontier Album (actually I read about it before it came out in a magazine and that he wanted to go back to his irish roots after the heavy rock solo albums), where he tried to express his sadness about Phil passing away.

He was somehow a part of my life.

Not Gary playing . . .

i'm glad i got into him when i did. corridors crushed and was such a great link between the old heroes (clapton/beck/page) and the modern 80's technical advancements! his playing inspired me and taught me a lot about what a rock guitar solo should sound like, and what it should accomplish.

rock on gary!

i just bought corridors and victims on cd like a few months ago....i'll listen to those tonight in honor of the man.

i still cant believe it

just so hard for me to take in....i hve so many memories of me and friends sitting in the car in the garage and disecting his CD's for hours at a time and playing them on the way to guitar shows.

i feel like ive lost a close friend :(

I still can't and are unable to believe, that a man who's always standing solid like a rock on the stages of this world really is died now! Gary was at least apparently in rude health, as I've met him 2 1/2 years ago and he bristled with vitality.

Here some photos of Gary from July 2008:

He was always and still is one of my Top-10 guitar players at all and he's been one of the reasons, why after 17 years off the guitar in 1984 I've picked up the guitar again and why I've started to play in bands back then. My very first life show I've seen again after 17 years off the guitar was Gary Moore in 1984 - featuring his new album "Victims Of The Future". Yes - you even can say, that Gary was indirectly one of the reasons, why I've started servicing, modding and later building amps.

Oh Gary, it's so sad these bad news! R.I.P.

But - hey Gary! In your leisure time go on and play great music together with Phil Lynott again!

Larry
