Risson amps?

Anyone here ever played one, specifically the ETA 150? There's one nearby and I'm curious if it's worth heckling out... Supposedly it has 3 preamplifier tubes and 4 6550s. Any info is greatly appreciated!
 
if its working right and you can get it cheap go for it they are cool. the circuit is very similar to the traditional marshalls, MV i beleive
 
Had one years ago...it kicked ass! Developed a problem and took it in to get fixed...The so called repair guy did me a favor and "got rid of all that distortion" for me......UGHH!! anyways....Great amps...a little funky but cool and Bob is still goin strong!!
 
It's at a GC that is somewhat close and I just got an email back...apparently something with the fuse is messed :gethim:

I'm tempted to see if I can get it cheap if that's all that's wrong with it, because a fuse holder is easy to replace, I'm just nervous there's more wrong with it.

The amps name is Bob? Or the tech who made it more efficient?

I've got an ETA 100, dual 6550, MV, etc. Great metal amp.
 
I never played one but, i remember picking one up when i was younger and it weighed a freakin' ton! :lol: :LOL:
 
When I saw this talk about Risson amps - I had to sign up and comment. I have a Risson 'Marvel'...which is a new line of Risson amps that Bob Rissi is making after taking an amp building break for a few decades. He actually took never-been-used parts from the 70's that he had in storage to build this new Risson 'Marvel' design. They are amazing. I wish you could hear one.

In the 70's I had a transistor Risson. I wasn't into transistor amps - but this was unlike any I ever played through. The overdrive was so good - it's a bit difficult to describe it at the moment. I used overdrive most of the time and didn't use a pedal to make it happen - it was all amp.

Bob Rissi lives in the Riverside County area (southern california) and is more than willing to work on his or any other amps you bring to him...if you find one with a problem and want it bad enough. Some of the older tube monsters are incredibly loud and heavy...but they all sound great.

is his line out now? I would love to have a new amp with all his old parts. that would be killer. I loved those amps.
 
Bob Rissi is making amps again. They are all tube and just the best of what you would expect from custom made tube amps - with some updated designs (inside designs). I believe he may be sharing a booth at the next NAMM show...which is good.

I knew I'd heard the name Risson Amps somewhere! This pic explains it :D . Read the Slash bio a couple of years ago when it came out and wondered about the Rissons then but was too lazy to google anything.

Those used to be around quite a bit in the Orange County area. I never really got to spend a lot of time with one though. I do remember a guy brought one in to sell me about 15 years ago. We turned it on and this thick waxy stuff started pouring out of the top of one of the filter caps. It smelled ungodly and the shop smelled like that for days after.

That name brings back stinky memories :doh: ;)
 
Bob is a cool guy, I called him about ten tears ago. He had just got home from work, he worked at IBM if memory serves. I talked to him about 30 minutes. He told me he was taking a break on amps, that it was too cut throat. He had worked at Richenbacher and Fender and designed amps for both companies before starting Risson. He told me his two channel amps had a Fender like channel and a Marshall like channel. Anyway, sorry to ramble. Cool guy though.
