I think some of you guys are missing the point. It's an image, a fashion statement. It's the sane crap as jeans with holes costing $150. The whole ideal behind selling in the music industry is to sell people a piece of thier dreams. Almost everybody playing music wants to be a rockstar or wants to be as cool as "insert rockstar here". Why hate? It's all business. Relics look cool as shit. The originals are better, but I sure can't afford a '62 strat. I'd never spend extra for a relic, but at the same price as a non-relic? I wouldn't care. Guitar is a guitar. If it plays and sounds good play it.
I bought two road worn guitars, and honestly not for looks. The nitro being worn down and thinned on the body feels and sounds great. I find a thin or worn finish on the guitar body lets the guitar resonate and have more sustain....and the finish being almost totally gone from the neck feels and sounds better to me as well.

I'm not trying to convince anyone to like road worn guitars, but I have my reasons...try one, you might be surprised how good it plays and sounds.

Agreed. It's literally the dumbest thing I've ever seen. I also hate people that take a perfectly good guitar and beat it up to make it look "cool". Having a beat up guitar doesn't make you look cool. It makes you look like an asshole that doesn't take care of their shit.

You are correct to agree with my premise, Madrigal.

Did you take your name from the Rush tune Madrigal?

My Wizard MC100 had a relic'd chassis. I never knew it when I bought it , but Rick said it was special ordered that way. Not for me.

Everyone of my guitars that have a bump or nick was put on there by me. A lot of practice hours, time setting up the guitar, changing strings, changing pickups and sweat was put into that guitar. I personally couldn't even imagine buying something that's been looked to be beat up by someone other than me.

What I'm so angry about is that we are all required by law to buy relics or road worn guitars. I wish we were free to choose what we liked for ourselves. I also hate having to be the one who decides what someone else buys or likes or wants for themselves. It's a lot of stress and responsibility to be in charge of what everyone else gets to play or what they should like. It's also a ton of responsibility to declare how stupid and lame and poser-like the guys playing relic guitars are.

So yeah, I love relic guitars. I play the crap out of my new guitars (I'm not sure what that means actually) but they don't start showing wear for a couple of decades. I took what many would say was a perfectly good guitar (that hundreds of other people had one exactly like):

YAWN. And made it look like what I wanted it to look like, a 1982 original Charvel San Dimas strat head, but didn't have to pay $3k for it:

I have had HUNDREDS of people offer to buy this guitar from me that have viewed it in my YouTube clip. I so wish that I had a guitar that looked exactly like what any Joe can walk into Guitar Center and buy right now or order online from a dealer. And I have to tell you, I am so glad you guys set me straight.

I AM A POSER WHO LIKES LAME GUITARS, I'll shout it from the mountaintop. Click the vid to laugh at me, to pity me, to ridicule me. You still can't have this guitar though. Not for sale.

A federal court today ruled that it is unconstitutional for Obamacare to mandate that a citizen purchase health insurance.

Once that meanders its way to the Supremes, perhaps they can address your concern about road worn guitars.

I have no issues with receiving or taking criticism. This is a forum where you are allowed to state your opinion. Some people do have remarkably thin skins around here and that makes it even more interesting than it otherwise would be.

Your skin seems the thinnest around. You started this thread about road worn guitars, yet the only posts you're responding to are the ones that criticize you, not the ones pertaining to the topic.

I created the topic, brother Willy. Without me, it would not exist. My opinion was stated in the opening salvo.

And I'm answering your query, even though it was off-topic, simply bc it was addressed to me. I think the common folk could learn something from me in that respect.

Guess you wouldn't like my Road Worn either...
So, umm no.
No 100% agreement for you.

Haha. No, it's from the Opeth tune.

I agree, I'm fine with them. I like the way the necks feel with the thinner finish. I think sometimes they go a little overboard with the hardware and body but C'mon, who the fuck here is going to own their precious guitar long enough to ware it themselves. Unless you're touring constantly and have the thing for 15 years it aint gonna happen.

"I know I've only had the guitar for a month after special ordering it, custom built to my dream specifications, but it's time to move on..but rest assured any ware was hard won from our short but sweet time together"

I'm fine with relics. If a guitar feels and sounds good to play, then that's all that matters. Frankly, I like the feel and look of broken in jeans, and shoes too. I have plenty of guitars I've broken in myself over the last many years, but nothing like a real '62 strat would be like. So, a relic is a fair facsimile. Too many guitars these days look like a fine piece of furniture, so a relic here and there is cool with me. Now, that being said. . .if you can't back it up with your playing, then I think it's kind dumb. But, if you're a good, solid player, that can make any guitar sound good, then go for it.

I like the road worn Fenders. How cool is it to buy a new guitar and tell ur gf/wife it was a beat up piece of crap u picked up? Not that I have to  besides I have 5 new mint guitars and having a few road worns I won't worry as much about them. I'm really looking for a cool Tele.

I have a few guitars that I played alot from 1990, an 82 ibby and 89 charvel/Jackson and they still do not look like they are road worn.
