I saw where Robin is using Marshall Vintage Modern amps. I really wanted to like those amps. I've given them demo after demo and can't seem to get em right. Trower plays with lots of volume. Maybe that will make the difference with these amps. Trower could make a fender champ sound huge.

Well like any amp the VM isn't for everyone. You realize that Robin Trower uses a ODpedal from Fulltone right? I absolutel must have a boost pedal infront of mine to be completely happy.

try these settings
reverb off, Pres 1:00, bass 1:00, mid 11:00, treb 12:30, High Dynamic Range, Mid Boost try booth in and out, detail 4:00, body 10:30

Now use a decent OD pedal like a yellow Boss SD-1 or a Barber Direct drive and set it up like this... Vol maxed or very high, Tone 12:00 - 1:00, and Gain less than 9:00

Let me know if that helps.

im surprised hes using the vintage modern...ive heard hes very very picky

I wish someone close by had a VM100 I could try for a while. Even though I have my DSL50 setup pretty well, I still want to give this amp a whirl. And I want to do it at volume, not "turn down you might scare away the emo's" guitar center volume.

It doesn't surprise me. I think the VM is one of the "best bang for the buck" amps out there if you like the Marshall sound.
