I play a cover in standard tuning too. I just use an open G chord, and walk a C chord shape up the scale for the main riff. It works.

Open G (DGDGBD) Stones and Robert Johnson is a fun tuning play with. It’s extremely versatile especially if you’re Travis picking with shuffling R-5 bass lines, having the 5th as the lowest note.
