After years of wanting to see these guys in concert, I finally went this past weekend at the Electric Factory in Philly. I showed up halfway through the 2nd opener and the place was packed. I’ve never seen it that packed.

I’ll keep this review short… the band sounded amazing. Scott Phillips is a solid in the pocket drummer that tons of great fills. He is probably up there as one of my favorite rock drummers(Portnoy being my fav). Tremonti was solid… I didn’t get to look at his rig closely, but he had Mesa Cabs and a few heads… one of which was a Bogner of some kind. He and Myles played PRS guitars all night. As for Myles, what a great singer!!! When singing with Slash, his voice can get somewhat nasally, but with AB, he sounds fantastic. His sense of pitch and vocal stamina are incredible.

As I mentioned earlier, the band sounded amazing. They were solid solid solid. BUT I got bored after a while. Thank god for the light show because they have to be one of the most boring bands I’ve ever seen live. It was almost like watching a Dream Theater concert. Again, all solid players, but there wasn’t much soul with the performance. Myles spoke to the audience maybe two or three times. His banter is pretty good though. Wasn’t political or spoke about world issues… he actually made a joke about how he wouldn’t be watching the super bowl(which was the following night) because he is completely sports illiterate and would be watching the “Property Brothers marathon on HGTV”.

For me, he was the most impressive part of the band… great voice and awesome guitar chops. I actually like his lead playing a lot more than Tremoniti. Just has more soul and a better sense of melody.

All in all, great rock show for sure… but I had just as much enjoyment(if not more) than watching Lady Gaga during halftime at the Super Bowl… but that’s another thread altogether.

Probably the only modern Rock band I listen to these days. Saw them 3 yrs ago and I agree with everything you said. Great band though.

I have the biggest man crush on Myles Kennedy... I am not kidding. That dude is an amazing singer, songwriter and guitarist.

I'm not the biggest fan but no question Myles is the best in the band and *much* prefer his guitar playing to tremonti (who I can't stand, granted).

I'm with ya on that. I love Alter Bridge and Slash's band equally! I would love to see both live. Myles is a gifted artist!

I gotta give props to Tremonti, when Creed first appeared he was just a very average player. He's a much better lead player now, and that's a credit to his work ethic and drive. I think he's very good. Myles is no slouch though..he's actually a very accomplished player himself.

Some friends of mine are opening for them on the West coast of the tour. Agreed on most of what you said. Solid band tho.

I wouldn't call them boring at all. They are proper musicians who write great songs and play their instruments live. I guess if you want entertainment go see Korn or Slipknot. Myles adds a lot of interesting dynamics to what Mark does. Mark works harder day in and day out than anybody I know out there. He is always practicing, writing, working on his craft. Great band IMO.

Miles is really talented, Tremonti is too obsessed with weedly weedly nowadays. I prefer his Creed solos.
And they have the best collection of PRS guitars of any touring band.

Saw them at Royal Oak music theater in Mi a couple of weeks ago and I was disappointed... The mix was terrible! It was loud and pushed but absolutely no clarity! could not decipher anything really, no vocal clarity, Tremonti's Guitar, drums... Nothing. Really like there cd's but no go on live. Cant believe these pros really wanted that mix???? Ugh

I love Mark, but that constant Wah Wah shit on every single solo is brutal!

Saw them in NYC last night and they were great!! I am a huge Mark Tremonti fan and my wife got me tickets to the guitar clinic he does before the show. Spent an hour with him and he could not have been nicer! I was blown away by how far he has come as a player. He spent some time talking about his song writing process which was very outside the box but cool to hear. And no....no talk of Creed! LOL

I watched sound check and also got to spend some time on stage talking with Mark and looing at his gear. It's a very simple setup for this tour....the Mesa, the Bogner, his usual Mesa cabs, and a few pedals...that's it. He runs both amps together and they sound huge! They sounded great during sound check and even better during the show. Admittedly I have never been a fan of Miles' vocals but live they were perfect in the mix and not over the top. As a musician he is amazing! Flip and Brian were as solid as ever and were really locked into each other. Mark was amazing!! For me personally, seeing them live is just so much better than listening to the albums. The albums are great but live they just sound so big and full! The show was at the PlayStation Theater and acoustics were very good as well. Anyway, here is a few pics................

Yes...it was a small combo. I don't think it was a production Archon because it had the controls on top, not on the front. There was a piece of tape on the front that said MArchon, Rev. A. He was using the cube to amplify a small drum track unit he had for the session.

Yet another thing I meant to ask him about but never got to it.

Yep the Marchon is the proto it's a 15 watt combo supposed to be released in March
It's not pure Archon according to posts it's kinda a fender clean and Uberschall 6l6
Like his stage amp
He just talked about it in Thoman interview
He wants it to sound a certain way and price point under 800 so it obviously made in Korea
But they are having hard time staying in budget

I was never a big fan of them, I had heard bits and pieces of their stuff as my bro loves them. But then I got to see them live at a Festival here in Sydney a couple of years ago and was blown away. Also that day, Myles did a set with Slash and his band as well so I got a double Myles dosage that day. (Yes I too have the same man crush on him).

They are playing here in April, got tix and hoping they are doing the clinic thing as well.

did he use the archon live that day or was it just a backup amp?

Very cool. Can't wait to see it.

Saw them live also, most impressed by Scott Phillips and Myles. Very tight live band.
