Scholz Sugar Cone 100 Watt Speaker - Pete Thorn

I don't know about "greatest ever" but it compared pretty well to the V30. I'm not saying I think it's better but it didn't immediately sound small and peaky/notchy like so many other speakers do in the V30 shootout test.

Some things :

a] its okay but tone is subjective the difference a & b is minute.
b] seem to be trying to capitalize on Tom Scholz fame.
c] im not running out dropping $1K on a product b/c of a PT video.
d] argueably the "greatest" guitar speakers were made over 50 yrs ago.
e] PT editing after each sentence & phrase is annoying AF.

I like what I'm hearing in this demo. I know these are somewhat based on Fanes but weren't these SugarCones touted as a "British voiced" EV alternative back in 2012 when first introduced? That's what I'm hearing, a very wideband clean EV thing but with much more British mid bark.

Sound anything but "Brit". Thats a marketing ploy.
Sound & look more Altec than anything else
PT can make a video of rubberbands on tincans in a toilet and someone will buy it.

I thought it made the V30 sound congested and smaller. When he did the solo section comparison though, at least with the guitar and amp he was using I thought the Scholz for rhythm and the V30 for lead would have been a good combo….and yes the video editing was next level 😁

Yeah, greatest is definitely subjective... sounded dead to me. I could kinda hear a little British in that, but just not impressed at all. V30 sounded much better to me and I'm usually not a fan of those, either. Wasn't hearing any Crescendo, EV, or Altec. Maybe some other Fane, maybe. And the editing... SMH

I don't trust ANYTHING that involves the HAARRY JOYCE amp company. a VERY poorly run operation!

Same here, I was reminded of EV's. I suppose the cast frame and 2" voice coil didn't hurt the impression.

I agree, and that's usually how I feel when comparing EV's to V30's too.

I actually preferred the Scholz for both rhythm and lead. The Scholze felt like it had more space, definition, and presence for the lead work.
