Screwed over by lending guitar to friend!!

In high school my buddy lent out his guitar to our drummer. It was in great shape...came back in a bag, the drummer took the neck off and all of the electronics for some unknown reason then lost pieces and couldn't figure it out. It was like that episode when Fonzie was blind & Richie took his bike apart.

All dusty and dirty too. That was devastating for a young lad with limited cash....another good friend told me he doesn't lend out gear period. That's a good motto to follow.

I never lend anything to anybody, ever

Even a 3$ CD, I know it'll come back scratched or I'll just never see it again. People just don't give a fuck. And if they do, they don't give as much of a fuck as I do.

On another note, this thread just shows how materialistic we've all become.
29 year old friendship, gone
For a ding on a friggin guitar
Does it still play like a 3000$ guitar?

Yep, I never loan out my CDs, but I have my guitars and amps. The friends that I would loan my guitar stuff to would fess up if it happened to my stuff!!

I thought this guy would fess up to it. I never had a problem loaning a guitar or amp to anyone. I have lent out guitars a lot of times, for recording projects, just to let a friend play a guitar they like, etc. I guess not anymore.

It sucks doesn't it? And then you'll eventually end up looking like the bad guy because you don't want to "help a brother out"

Yup, I am prepared for that, looking like the bad guy is better than getting a guitar back in this shape.

How long did you lend it to him for? Show him a pic of the guitar before you bought it. If he is in denial about it he is lying to you and he isn't your friend. Then take him to small claims court.

I lent it to him for the day, that's it. He saw the guitar right when I got it, he is aware of what it looked like in mint condition. I would have never thought he would deny doing this. I spoke to a couple other friends that know the guy and they are just as surprised as I am. Nobody can believe he would deny it. There was nobody at his house when it happened, he admits nobody was there the entire day. Then I think things like, "maybe his daughter was there, and he is covering for her?" I went as far as to say to him, "hey, if she did it, tell me, its cool, young kids make mistakes all the time." he still said no.

Sorry to hear man.

I highly doubt it, but it is possible the kids cracked it out and the wife is shady and denies or anything else could've happened without his knowledge but......

That's BS. Really, before you give someone back their $3k guitar you don't look at it one last time?

Crazy shit man.

just playin ;) but I would be really pissed to the point where I would consider violence... :gethim:

I'm really sorry this happened to you.

I'm shocked by the damage. It looks like he got hungry mid way through playing and figured that Poly/Nitro is a delicious snack.

That sucks so bad!

Just this week I sent a Rocktron Intelliverb to a guy I have been 'friends' with since 1979. The agreement was that he would send me a new set of custom shop Fender pickups in trade for the Intelliverb. I called him on Thursday to let him know that the Intelliverb would be there by Friday. I asked him if he had sent out the pickups? He replied; "Umm.. I took another look at the pickups, and it looks like Fender must have put a used set of pickups in the box..." Bullshit! As soon as I got off the phone with him, I naturally contacted FedEx to have the Intelliverb rerouted back to me. He actually had the balls to call me yesterday to ask me why I rerouted the shipment? When I told him why, he actually got pissed about it!

Typical Democrat.

Wow that's bad. Horrible. But maybe it happened while he was transporting the guitar to you or somthing and didn't realize. When it's this obvious how can he not own up to it otherwise.

Nope, did not occur during transport. How can he not own up to it, you ask? Simple, by saying, "I didn't dooooo it," over and over. He called me a little while ago and said, "are you still pissed?" But he said it in a way that inferred he didn't do it, he finished that statement with a little laugh trying to lighten things up. I had to hang up.

I hope this isn't a rude question, but are you still selling the guitar? If so, you wrote that you were experiencing some fretting out; did he mess up the frets, or is it purely cosmetic damage? How much would you sell the guitar for in it's current condition?

Again, hope it isn't a rude question; you already have one a$$hole to deal with.

That is so not cool...I remember when you were going through the tough time with medical bills....glad you got straight and got a nice fiddle...so not cool for someone to ruin to for ya :-(

You've learned a lesson now grasshopper--never lend expensive guitar to scumbag friend--now unleash the fury--sorry man that sucks

If I borrowed my friends guitar and that happened I'd feel so bad about it and sure it sucks, but better to admit it and offer to do something to resolve it.

Deny til you die
He still thinks he can get off the hook
Only when he knows you're 100% certain he's responsible, then he might admit
