Screwed over by lending guitar to friend!!

Man, I can't believe he would deny something so blatant, considering it was only with him for a day. That and being close friends for so long, it doesn't make a lot of sense. Is there any chance it was damaged in between when he gave it to you, and when you were able to look at it?

It sounds so crazy a close friend would do that. I've had a friend since 4th grade that I wouldn't hesitate to lend anything to, and vice versa. I would never in my wildest dreams imagine him doing something like that.

Words to live by.

I never borrow shit from friends and I never lend shit to friends. My true friends know why I'm like this but the fair weather friends think I'm a stingy little shit.

I
suggested this, but it was ignored. It seems he is certain his friend did something and is denying it.

we were close friends up until about ten years ago, then life took us in different directions, we didn't have any sort of falling out. because we were close for so long, I lent it to him. I am confused also. One thing he has done though, is broken the bro code a number of times, he slept with some other guys in our group of friends girlfriends, we were a lot younger at the time, and I didn't thing he would be so careless with a guitar as he is with his dick. He always blamed it on drinking claiming he was in a blackout and did not remember the incident. Funny, the only time he blacked out is when he was screwing his friends girls. In those cases he didn't deny it happened because he couldn't, so instead he claimed ignorance via a blackout. That was so long ago, I really thought he changed over the years. he was that guy in our group of friends that everyone always forgave. he wasn't very smart so if you lashed out at him you felt like you were sculding a dumb dog that didn't know any better. he was very likable. having a kid, I thought it changed him for the better. He had become a lot more responsible over the past years. I am just really disappointed. If he admitted it, I would not be nearly as mad. He knows how anal I am about keeping stuff super clean, and germ free. he stickied my guitar once years ago, and I flipped out on him. He must have had like a popsicle or something like that and my guitars fretboard and neck were sticky. I was almost crazed with irritation. Maybe he thought of that and couldn't even imagine my reaction to this and just thought, "I am going to deny this til the bitter end!" we had lent each other guitars a handful of times over the past handful of years and they were always returned in the condition that he got them in.
there is no way it was damaged in between the time he gave it to me and when I opened it up back at my house, unless a small flock of termites secretly snuck into my car, then got to the guitar and started eating it.

That really sucks man. I'd totally break ties with him. But, first...I'd attempt to make him pay for a refinish at Suhr...even if he had to pawn his own shit to get the money to pay for it. But, I'd write him off regardless of what he does, just for the fact that he did not fess up to doing it in the first place. He'd be absolutely dead to me. When it's all said and done, you'll just have to chalk it up as a life learning experience.

I would delete this last post of yours here and then send the thread URL to him via an email so he can see what your peers think about it. Take some more pictures too as well as post some 'before' pics.

I mean what the hell - did he whack it against a counter top or a door jam? Maybe he was doing windmills with a quarter. Maybe he blacked out and fell down on top of it. Maybe one of his careless kids got a hold of it. Sorry if I missed something but did you send him pics?

Sorry dude! :aww: :aww: :aww:

yes, I sent him a few pics. first response was, "I didn't do that!?" If I was in his shoes, and I had really not done it, and had not been accused of it yet, I would have said, "damn, that sucks dude, how did that happen?" don't you think if you got a text message with a few pics of this guitar from a friend you would ask how it happened and say something along the lines that it is a bummer?
as for what he hit it against? I don't know, but it must have been a VERY HARD BLOW to do so much damage. he didn't appear drunk, but i could be wrong. look at the pic of the main damage area, that would require a very hard blow. it seems like dropping it from waist or chest high wouldn't even do that. i am blown away. i also feel bummed out. that is a major imperfection. that guitar was in 10/10 shape prior to yesterday. there was not a scratch/nick/dent or a ding. it was total perfection. yes, I have the guitar damage blues.

I am going to contact Suhr Monday at see what my options are.

No. If you sent me pics of the guitar I had just returned to you a few hours earlier, then my first thoughts would be "why's he sending my these pictures?", then figure you were blaming me. That is assuming you just sent him pictures without typing anything....which is strange.

I know you thought the guy changed but he already returned a guitar back to you with something "sticky" on the neck. That showed disregard at that time. It seems there has been many clues to this guys lack of respect for people and their property over the years. People like that usually don't change too much. It's how they were brought up and that's difficult to reverse. I have learned to only lend something if you wouldn't be too pissed if it comes back damaged (i.e. a Squier).

Sorry about the guitar. Good news is that in the grand scheme of things it is still ONLY a guitar and it can be fixed.................but it does suck.

Typical Democrat.

whoa whoa whoa... this is the kind of post that is completely uncalled for... seriously... why bring your political views into this?

your friend doesn't sound like a Democrat... not in any way. you really should recheck your understanding of political parties.

you make yourself sound like the "typical" and uninformed person here.

I thought it was funny... maybe lighten up a bit?

So you did not look at it when you picked it up?

This goes as freight damage.

You accepted it without verifying the condition.

If you go to court.... I think you can not offer any proof he did it.

Sucks, but if you did not check it when you got it from him, at that moment, it is an expensive lesson learned.

And he does sound like a typical democrat. Look in the projects, full of democrats. They get shit and tear it up. Don't care that they do.

This is what happens when you trust a democrat...

And you lent this blackout drunk buddy that screws his buddies girlfriends your awesome guitar?

You are dumb as a fucking bag of hammers...

Yup....learned my lesson on this LONG ago. Not as pricey as this situation. But enough to make me live by this.

Want anybody to go away? Lend them money...If you don't get that then? ;)

Better yet.....I have one of these for people that are annoying me when I am working.
Come up to me bitching about something....I smile....give them a "wait a minute" sign holding up one finger.
Then pull this card from my jacket. Fuckers run away quicker then hell.
