Hey RT,

Any of you ever experimented with swapping the polepiece screws out for hex head and vice-versa?

I just did on my lacello recently and did not expect there to be distinct EQ differences between the two, especially concerning the mid-range character and pick attack.

I dont mean like a standard slug and polepiece pickup vs all hex, this was just swapping the polepieces from the hex head I built em with to the standard because I had some lying around and was curious.

Much meaner sounding with the hex head in, so I am leaving them on this guitar.

Pretty fast and easy experiment to perform.

Yeah, polepiece screw material definitely affects the sound of the pickup.
I would expect the hex screw material to be a much harder alloy than a regular pole piece screw, and I'm not surprised you hear a difference.
I believe pole piece screw material is one of the areas where the various pickup winders look for tonal differences and "mojo".

Interesting. For a while I've been wondering if Gibson's softer metal pickup covers provide a different overall effect than Duncan's harder cover material.

very cool! do you remember the thread size? I had a Gibson pickup in my hands recently and I was suprised at how long the pole screws were. How long are your hex screws? Are they just a threaded body with a hex broach on one end or like a hex head capscrew? Like a full shred or like an invader?

I did a lot of pole piece adjusting when I installed a set of P90s in my epi 56 lp. I have also been tweaking the height and pole screws on my BB pro, I'm considering giving up on it and trying the WLH or SNS. I heard the slash 3.0 and it sounds harsh like the BB pro. Similar specs so not shocked

I really dig Planet Toine pickups and put them in a lot of my stuff. I will have to pop one of the hex poles out and double-check.
