:D

That ^

And try a different boost and an eq pedal in front and/or in the loop and/or a different cab/speakers, etc... Those alone will probably make at least as much difference as buying another amp.

I've just sold my Hagen today, too modern and too many options. Not going that way again.

I'm in the search for an amp that both have thick distortion and excellent crunch with the possibility to clean up with the volume pot.

I live in Denmark, so a Friedman would be too expensive over here with customs and so on. I have thought of a killer Kali++, but can it achieve a slightly overdriven tone well? Or is it strictly for a distorted sound?

:)

How about a............. Marshall?

The Fryette Deliverance is thick and crunchy and cleans up well with the volume knob.

I am gagging for a Quickrod again...Ah gas...Will I ever be free?

Fryette Deliverance did it for me. Slightly tighter but not ridiculous, and it cleaned up with the volume knob. Very good with singles or humbuckers. Great amp. I just needed two or more channels/eq's, and a loop. The Deliverance was just a little too bare bones for me, but it really could get any Marshall sound you wanted, and then some.

Another often overlooked and highly underrated amp is a used Peavey VTM60 or VTM120. Those will get you just about any Marshall sound up to the JCM900 (way better sounding than the JCM900 Hi Gain Dual Reverbs, for sure). Also quite a few guys out there who mod these (FJA comes to mind).

I'm interested in the Hagen in the hope it is rather Marshall-like, nice growl, not overly modern, but with decent clean and punchy enough to pull off more extreme metal. I've been following your Hagen clips, and I thought they sounded good. What do you mean with too modern?

I guess we're kind of in the some boat; shipping over boutique amps from the US and being raped on the VAT and import tax is a bit too expensive for me too. Especially without a chance to try them first...

The JVM Satriani sounds like it might be nice with enough volume, but I'm hoping modded Marshalls give up more of the goods at a lower volume.

The search goes on, I guess... :D

This guy has a good stock tone.

Now that's a killer heavy guitar sound. I love that sizzling top end crunch, the roar in the mids and that bottom end chunk- which I always find so frustratingly absent from modern high gain amp sounds (e.g. the Rectifiers on songs like Rob Zombie's Superbeast).
