Keep a few of your hard to replace amps for noodling and occasional messing around or reference.

Hmmm Guess I'll Keep my "Real amps" for Noodling and messing around? and most importantly to "compare/reference" to its digital axe emulation???

I think it is the other way around ! Have a real amp to play and if you want a fun toy to "mess around" or "noodle" buy an Axe

Don't get me wrong I will probably buy one when I have time to Noodle, but it can not Plexi/ vintage ac/30/ Diezel/ Friedman like a real amp...

Pretty amazing what it does, and surely a useful toolbox and back saver... but it ain't no 67 plexi into a vintage cab.... sorry!

The Axe sounds good like a Pod

I have the AXEII and the Kemper. Are they like real amps? No way, not ever. Just different. Plan on not having tube like expectations, and especially when you go to amplify these digital units.

Not wanting to argue the virtues of amps vs digital though, but I will say my Mark II and Mark V smoke either of the digital units. Others may disagree. I've used them enough I can tell what is synthetic in nature and what is a decent amp when I play them side by side. Clips don't mean shit. I can make massive clips with LePou free digital amp models in my DAW. If you are after metal type sounds for recording, you can save a lot of money using good Impulse Responses of speaker cabs and LePou or other DAW modelers from Overloud, etc.

The Kemper has a distinct edge in gain to tone accuracy IMO. Maybe because it gets its actual amp tone from real amps and real cabinets. The Amp Factory has a killer set of studio created amp profiles. Optional but definitely worth it.

The AXEII sounds great when you use a lot of effects. I think our 80's rack players are more into that. If you are into a ton of effects and hair bands, the AXEII is sweet. You just have to find a real way to amplify these units. I friggin hate those powered speaker cabinets. I use my Mesa Mk V live anyway so none of the digital gear matters. I got tired of patches changing sounds with updates, having to route patches, them not sounding the same on different house systems. It's cool, but for some of us a lot of extra work. I don't get too much time to set up, so a live amp rig and pedals are my go to! I'm not into programming like some guys are. It's a personal thing tho, not to take away from what modeling or the profiler unit can do.

Use a tube power amp, and power amp sims off for live.

No digital device can ever truly emulate the interaction between the poweramp and speaker. Voltage and current feedback. However when using the axe as a preamp and fx unit with a tube power amp does exist. It also allows you fx to sound a bit more like we're used to as it places them in between the preamp and poweramp, something the axe can t do.

For recording axe 2 DI for the win. Tho I still use the power amp cab and real mic personally when tracking final takes.

Good one Steve! But even in Small clubs and in the studio real amps do an Analogue Model of what the Axe does* only betta! Ac15 selmer zodiacs etc are not that loud. I have a few plexis. My favorite is a Diaz modded one. Goes REAL quiet well... But the Stadium comment made my day anyway! Haha

Fwiw. I still like 4 vintage Orange cabs and one modded plexi 100 and one stock 50 (or old traynor or etc.). For a 200 person club---- Don't wanna carry that anymore! But If i don't have a full stack it's less fun not to have the speakers at my back (of course this always ruins the vocal sound...). Whatever its all fun especially reading about the AXE

This guy kinda likes it. Switching between his amps and the Fractal is also cool. Must be nice having roadies.:

Sounds cool! I can hear a distinct tone in a lot of these axe clips but it's not bad. Sorta sounds like a tracked guitar that has been touched up in a studio with a little less depth. Like a less raw, and more "perfect" tone if that makes sense. I like it though! I like where modeling is going. The next ten years are going to be interesting!

Nice avatar Molten. I predict it will get attention.

You can place anything in the Axe anywhere in the chain. Why doesn't the Axe do what you are saying?

I am the exact opposite place than you. At the point it just is a preamp I'll use my X88, X99 or CAE 3+ with my 2290 and I think it sounds much better than the Axe (again, haven't tried V.2). I don't need to save 2 or 3 spaces that are fx units bad,
