holy cow but which one!! when I lived in L.A. I never had the money. Now that I'm 12 hours away I have the money but no way to check them out :( I have played the BE-100 and the SS-100. Of those 2 I liked the SS100 slightly more. Is the boost on the SS100 just a pre-determined gain boost? couldn't find that in the manual. I would love to hear the Small Box and the Phil X one, curious how they compares to the BE-100 or SS100. And I'd be using a Greenback cab. Anyone use a Greenback cab with a Friedman amp? Not interested in using a boost pedal with a Friedman, from when I played them before I won't need it. TIA!

Stick with your gut! The SS is my favorite too.
Someone has had one to sell here for a while.
Check the classifieds.

Dude, seriously, get a 5150. I have one and I can get it to sound like any of the Friedman amps. ;)

Darren, 12 hours to go from Sherman Oaks to North Hollywood? :scared:

I'm guessing you haven't updated that location in your profile. Where are you now?

Oh that's right. Wrong thread. Sorry. ;)

I thought I read where someone who compared the BE100 to the JJ said that the BE mode on the JJ sounded better than the BE100. Just to throw more confusion in the mix!

The SS100 is a keeper for me. It is easily my desert island amp I have the earliest version with no boost the volume knob on the axe works for me....

Buy the SS100. I'm about to buy a Smallbox. Then move to NC and let me borrow your SS100 whenever I want, and I'll do the same with the Smallbox :D . Seriously, I don't think you can go wrong.

The deciding factor for me is I need the straight ahead plexi tone more in my band way more than I need the modded tones. Amp I just sold was a marshall with the Brown Eye and C45 and simple clean mod and I loved it, except I could never quite get my between tones like I wanted. I'd back off the gain and use my volume control and though it was less gainy it still sounded modded if you know what I mean. Thick and compressed in a great way but not a classic marshall crunch. I'd switch to clean and it was too clean for what I was trying to do. In my situation I need modded marshall and classic crunch that cleans up with the volume knob, you know marshall cleans, more than I need a real clean channel. I don't believe the SS or the BE has a "plexi" channel. If you need that tone, you won't get there rolling off the volume and gain on those amps in my experience.

I know its not the same amp, but my kitchen sink modded metro plexi cleans up beautifully rolling off. I think it has as much to do with the pickup used as the amp ;)

I have a BE-100. I use it with Marshall cab's loaded with original G12-65's. It's the tone in my head and the last amp i'll ever need.

Also, I know (for absolute fact) that there is 3 channel Bill Kelliher sig model coming out soon and they are just working on the aesthetics at this point. It's the Smallbox clean, JJ-based high gain and a true crunch channel in the middle that I didn't get the voicing details on. All with separate EQ's and gain controls.

The BE is three channel as well, but doesn't have a gain control on the clean and the BE and HBE channel share the gain control. That works perfectly for me, but for some, it may be worth waiting for the BK model.

the 2203 just holds my fan now. :D

SS is more Plexi-ish than the BE. So maybe the BE would be a good option. Although I liked the SS more than the BE.

I hope that isn't the "super high gain" amp that was eluded to in the other thread with the pic that Friedman posted on Facebook.

This doesn't sound "super high gain" at all to me...just more options.
