Well shit, I was just about to pull the trigger on a BE-100, Astrox, any other info on this new Friedman amp?

I wasn't going to say it, because name dropping is stupid, but Bill is a local boy here and played in a ton of bands around here before Mastodon. I consulted with him about the Friedman amps and he gave his opinion and told me about his sig amp. That is pretty much all he gave me on it for now. He wasn't very direct about the crunch channel voicing, but he said both gain channels could get high gain pretty much if you wanted.

No idea on when it will be available either. I asked him to keep me posted.

I hope that isn't the "super high gain" amp that was eluded to in the other thread with the pic that Friedman posted on Facebook.

This doesn't sound "super high gain" at all to me...just more options.

Not sure. If it is, then that is obviously just a proto. Bill said the one channel was based off the JJ gain. Not sure if that means it includes the BE option or not. It could have the SAT switch perhaps which would bring a JJ into higher gain territory as well. Also, it could be based off the JJ channel with more gain on tap as well. Not sure. I don't hear Mastodon and think ultra high gain.

This could be what Ive been waiting for, a JJ-Be-100-small box hybrid amp perhaps?

That's what i was thinking. I'm thinking that the "crunch" channel would be a BE variant, as he currently uses both a BE and a JJ and loves them both.

The EVH craps all over the Friedman,Wizard and Diezel Vh4 ( acording to many threads here ) ...

I agree, I don't hear "super high gain" when I hear Mastodon. It sounds like a cool amp that many would dig though.

Just got a JJ100. I'm liking it much better than the BE100, basically because JBE voice sounds so thick and ballsy. Playing it through a 70s Marshall cab with 30watt blackbacks, Sounds wonderful.

The JJ all the way...had a be100 briefly and if you going for high gain/modern style JJ for sure.

you cant go wrong though, they are both amazing, or any friedman for that matter

Had a chance to demo a BE-100, SS and JJ all together and the SS I Iiked the best, 2nd the BE-100. Now where talking personal taste as all 3 amps sound killer. How the clean channels are may shape your decision better. The SS has a very Fender voiced clean that does not breakup. The JJ I think may be a little more voxy and breaks up a tiny bit. IIRC the boost was not adjustable on the SS but honestly I found it to be the perfect amount. I found it was super easy to set a dirty sound that rolled off crunchy/clean and kick on the boost for saturated goodness. I also dug the hell out of the Dirty Shirley and if that had a separate Master, just for volume boosts for leads it would be all I would need for any rock gig.

for versatility the BE wins, for me the JJ just had that gain tone I was looking for, not to mention stellar clean. i would agree with skoora on the clean description for the JJ.

If this is the new " Ultra High Gain" model Dave Friedman is alluding to, I am all over it. To have ultra high gain and 3 channels in a most likely Marshall type of amp would be great. Might even sell the Herbert if it's that good. I just hope Dave's definition of ultra high gain and mine are the same. Just wonder when it is due out?

Doesn't sound that different from the JJ.

JJ, BE and clean - mine have the extra MV too, so it's a 3 channel
