Seymour Duncan Custom?

You're saying the Custom is "bigger and tighter" than the Full Shred?
I think so. Maybe just as tight, but there's noticeably more bass. A Full Shred is rated 4, the Custom a 7 in bass output. I've had both, the Custom is definitely bigger in the low end, yet tight. I think it's around 14k vs a JB or Distortion at 16.4k. The '78 is another good pickup, as is the Jupiter 6.

I'm switching out the pickguard. Will it just be just unscrewing parts or is there anything that will be glued on?

Ive used the SH-5 30+ yrs. My favorite rock pup. Loves basswood, mahogany & most alder

Wait, how close is the Full Shred to the Custom? I can't stand the Full Shred. It has zero body/bass and sounds thin IMO. I just ordered a Custom. I was hoping the Custom would give a good higher-gain EVH brown sound, like a Super Distortion does... but without being as compressed as a Duncan Distortion.

I'm not a fan of the Full Shred, but I love the SH-5. They sound vastly different.

I bought a new charvel pro mod dk24 at some point which came with the full shred. It was too bright and brittle sounding. Maybe it was the combination maple fretboard alder body but man I couldn't stand the tones I was getting!

I had one in a mahogany V years ago and really dug it. It had the power/clarity for high gain that I like about the JB, but a little smoother high end & it didn't have that honky mid-range that can get nasally with some rigs.

The only time I really liked that pickup was in a bolt on necked superstrat with a mahogany body. Every other guitar I tried with a full shred in the bridge has left me underwhelmed. LOL BUT, I think the Full Shred neck model is one of the best neck humbuckers out there.

I agree. I got one of those Pro Mod DK24s, too. Couldn't get rid of the Full Shred fast enough. I have a difficult time believing that it's the same coils and mag as the C5 and it's the pole pieces that make that much of a difference but could very well be. Yikes

IME, the Custom is very different than the JB as many others have already said. I might be in the minority, but I really like the Custom Custom, too, with the A2 mag. It is looser, but a great pup for leads without that annoying JB mid honk.
