Have a 20th Shiva. Not using it much now. Current project is my Mark V.
Mine is an EL34 build but I prefer amps with a big tight low end, so I've been using 6CA7 tubes. It's tight, warm and fat, but as dark as people say. I think power tubes make minor adjustments anyway.
But, I rolled some preamp tubes. I was using JJ ECC83S tubes.
Tried some Tung Sol, Ruby and Shuguanh.
In thr end, I thought the best were JJ ECC803S in V1-2-3. The remaining tubes had a minor tonal impact.
I thought I would live the Shiguang but I just found them thinner in the mids and slightly brighter.
ECC803S provides good clarity, right and still plenty of gain.
Has anyone tried KT77s?
