Pics of your individual rigs with specs?psychodave":d9cp5976 said:RJF":d9cp5976 said:A RIG is a collection of components that work in conjunction with one another to make up a single unit..right? Well, I have several rigs.![]()

One Marshall type rig uses a CCV and Aldrich amp heads, four 4x12's, multiple rack pieces and power amps.
My Mesa rig consists of a Triple and 2C++, two 4x12's and EQ's/pedals.
I also have a Mesa Triaxis rig with effects unit, custom Boogie EQ and Strategy 400.
Typically I'm running through four 4x12's. Using one 4x12 sounds like shit to me. lol
So my pic is not limited to a single rig.![]()

Obviously you're a fan of this Helix. Can you go completely dry though? Meaning from guitar strait into the Soldano preamp and/or the EVH without it being colored by the helix?XSSIVE":6mh72rz5 said:RJF":6mh72rz5 said:XSSIVE, can we get a break down?
It's actually way simpler than it used to be thanks to the switch to the Helix rack from my old setup. The Helix is the brain of the whole thing and does midi switching for the EVH 50w which is just used as a preamp in one of the Helix's loops. It also does TRS channel switching for the modded Soldano SP77, which is my main tone on its drive channel. The Helix also does preamp modeling for even more tonal options beyond just the EVH and Soldano (I don't use the cab or poweramp modeling as I run it through tube power and 4x12s) and it does all my pre and post preamp mono and stereo FX like phaser, flanger, wah, delay, pitch detune reverb etc etc. In the pedal drawer are a few drive pedals I built that are also in the Helix's loops, but I also really like the Helix's modeled drives because if one isn't quite perfect, say it cuts too much bass or pushes a tiny bit too much mid, I can throw a parametric EQ after it and tweak it perfectly all within the Helix. It's all run in stereo through the 2150 and into the custom "Demon" cabs that are loaded with EVH greenbacks over Hellatone broken in V30s. I'm actually contemplating getting another cab made and going from stereo to wet/dry/wet since I can use the EVHs poweramp for the dry center and the 2150 for the wet cabs since the Helix can do all the signal routing for that too.

Just spent the last hour studying the Helix and also the Fractal 2 XL. It seems either of these units could take complete control of a dual amp stereo rig with ease. With my current setup being a TC Electronic G Force ran through the FX loop of each of my 2 heads, and my GCX switcher as the "brain" that splits my instrument signal and loops to add my clean boost (TS9) and control the loop on my VH4. Either the Helix or Fractal 2 XL could eliminate both rack pieces for me, add a TON more tonal options with the amp modelers, better FX quality, and simpler routing. Only catch is I have to be able to go bone dry ( guitar -> boost ->y split-> front end of both amps). I am able to do that now with the GCX and being able to turn the loops off on the amps eliminating my G Force from the chain.XSSIVE":1k3l7twr said:RJF":1k3l7twr said:Obviously you're a fan of this Helix. I was a bit skeptical about the Helix and if it would work for me but then I wired up a massive pedalboard for a local customer who also owns a Helix and she let me borrow it for a while and I was instantly sold as soon as I wired it into my rig and bypassed the cab and poweramp modeling and just used it as a routing "brain", preamp modeler and for all the typical FX. Yeah, it can run dry, although I never do if I'm being honest as I always have some sort of delay, verb or pitch detune on as that's my tone. When running dry it's essentially like a true bypass looper for pedals. The guitar goes into the Helix then I activate whichever of the 4 FX loops I want on (say #2 which is the SP77) and then you have guitar into SP77 and out into 2150 with no FX at all. That puts the SP77 within the signal chain and then I can add FX pre or post and also run things in parallel which I often do with delay and verb. It also gives you control of the input and output levels for each loop and the main ins and outs so you can change them from instrument level or line level as needed. I don't notice any tonal change compared to plugging right into the SP77 itself as long as the huge volume knob on the front of the Helix is turned all the way up which is unity.
