single channel, non-fender based clean(ish) preamp pedals?

I'm a somewhat new user of the CAB. makes demoing ideas way easier at home, and dirt pedals finally sound good when running direct into my interface. however, things are still a bit lacking and I've been looking for a standalone preamp to run between my board and the CAB to fill the missing component of guitar > X > poweramp > cab. my problem is, I have yet to find something that fully meets my needs.

to be clear, I do not want a "preamp" pedal for medium/high gain tones. Almost everything I've found for guitar preamps are purely designed around creating distortion, multiple channels and running into a real amp, or has built in cab sim if you want to run it direct.

I've aquired a Kingsley Squire, which is a blackface based preamp that is intended to be run straight into a power amp, and it works quite well for what I want. however, I'd still like to have a non-Fender based equivalent to have a different base tone. Hiwatt, Vox, I'm not really set on anything, just want something non-Fender flavored. I know that many of you use preamps for high gain tones, Blackstar, Bogner, AMT, Badcat, etc., not really what I'm looking for. I know that the Blackbird can do clean, but it's Fender based and overkill for what I want.

so does anyone know of anything out there that is small, single channel, CLEAN, non-fender based and has enough headroom to be hit with high gain pedals if needed? tube based is probably preferred, as is being in pedal format for portability/not having to deal with rack gear. I have a feeling I'll eventually have to build or get something custom built myself, but I'm trying to exhaust all options first.

Most of these tube preamp pedals are fender based. I know only the Badcat Twotone which clean channel is closer to a Vox AC30. Great sound, but huge and heavy pedal. I want one :)

I found interesting the Hughes & Kettner Tubeman, which delivers great clean tones and works well with other pedals. i am not a big fan of its lead channel though.

the Egnater thing looks interesting but maybe a little overkill for me right now.

I've been talking with Simin from Kingsley, he's looking into building me an AC30 style preamp, just looking I to the logistics at the moment, it'll have two tubes instead of one like the Squire (blackface based preamp) so it would have to go into one of his larger enclosures if he can build it. if so I think it could work out pretty nicely.

I'll keep this updated if/when I get something in, but still interested in other options for other non-hi gain flavors.

Any updates from Simon on building a AC30 style preamp?
