Anyone else really sink their teeth into this new album 'We Are Not Your Kind'?

I must say I think it is a masterpiece. Even if you don't like Slipknot or that kind of music. There is just so much shit to digest. Lots going on. I have my favorites. Solway Firth. Anyone want to talk about that song? I have to be careful not to get burned out I've been listening to this album so much.

OK thanks.

Totally agree, I've listened to it at least a few times a week since release. Most songs don't get skipped even when I'm driving. There's a lot of people disappointed that it wasn't Iowa II and I've heard complaints that it isn't heavy enough, but really I wouldn't change a thing about it. The transition from the intro to the beginning of the actual song on Solway Firth and Orphan are great examples of an audio punch in the face! Nero Forte is still my favorite, both musically and lyrically. Lyrically it fits stuff going on in my life which helps.

Yeah Greg.

Nero is such a great song because it really spreads Slipknot out. Corey's range has really broadened and this song exemplifies that. I love his punk rap'ish thing after each chorus. I bet that would be really hard live. But the fact that they have a sampler dude and scratch dude I would have no problem if they back tracked the chorus live to let Corey do his thing :D

Solway is just a frickin monster song. Like you said the way they introduce intros and outros is just genius. Solway Firth is a bay/estuary that kind divides(ed) Scotland and England back in the nomadic days and a long time ago, that ever moving border up the river there was a thing. As far as how I read it. So when he sings a few parts in an irish or scottish way it make sense. Along with whomever he is talking about. Or giving it to us to let us do with it what we need out of it :dunno:

I wouldn't change a thing either my friend.

Yeah there was talk about not too heavy or not enough solos but there is some seriously heavy shit in here plus very well thought out guitar parts.

There is a little something from the prior albums. Fullstop.

Then, they seem to also make some cool nods to other.

I hear: Some Korn. Floyd. Beatles. Creed. AIC. Bizkit. Tool. Thrash. Folk. Elevator. Punk. Death.

I mean.....:dunno:

This song would be a great gateway song to SlipKnot.

I guess this is the song people were saying sounded like Stone Sour but I know exactly 0 songs from that band. :dunno:

I know a lot of people shit on Mudvayne back in the day, but they were supremely talented musicians. They too were close to me, in the midwest, and played a lot of small clubs. I always really liked this song. Their bassist and drummer were amazing. He used to play VHT pitbulls, his live tone SLAYED

Unacceptable!  You need to at least check out the both of the House of Gold and Bones albums. Those were Stone Sour's creative peak as far as I'm concerned, and some of my favorite work from Root.

I heard a rumor that they may go out and play this album in it's entirety on their next tour. Jim had a Jazzmaster done with a Floyd to be able to play the Spiders solo live and had it on the road now to get used to playing it.

I would pay to see that

I love this band, the new album, saw them again at roadshow. I have probably seem them about 25 times, and was lucky enough to tour alongside them on a rockstar mayhem and off dates.

My Slipknot experiences kind of blow my own mind. I avoided them at first as I was already into heavier stuff at the time and the masks threw me off and seemed nu metal to me. A friend of mine who have been a super fan for the last 20 years was on the roadrunner street team and convinced me to give them a chance and also took me to a slew of early slipknot gigs. Once I saw it live I was instantly hooked. They were amazing, young , hungry and killer live.

My first experience was three days in a row as I had skipped them at ozzfest that first summer. Livin la vida loco sept 14,15,18, 1999. Then tattoo the earth in july 2000, ozzfest 2001, pledge of allegiance halloween 2001, jaeger music 2004, unholy alliance tour 2006, august 2008 camden nj, saw them at download uk in 2009, all mayhem dates 2012 and off dates, One gray chapter date in 2015, one in 2016, then this summer at roadshow 2019. I guess its pretty much been the entire time as crazy as that is.

Really cool short interview snip regarding how Alessandro "VMan" Venturella got the job as the new bassist of Slipknot after the late Paul Gray passed.

Quickly is that he was the guitar tech for Brent Hinds of Mastadon and didn't even play bass (supposedly). He actually borrowed Troy Sanders' bass (the bassist of Mastadon) to do the audition. LOL. WOW.

It is unfortunate that Paul passed for sure, he was Slipknot through and through. Vman is a great replacement though and you can see he respects his place in the band. Have you seen his rig though?? He uses 2 Diezel MK3 Herberts for his clean tones, that's a lot of amp for the bass tones haha.

Took me years to get into Slipknot, but I'm a big fan these days. 5 is my favorite record thus far, I blast that one on my ride into work often. My wife and I saw Corey doing a solo acoustic show at the Middle East in Boston a while back. It was right after Paul died and he cried during "Snuff", actually, I think everyone did. Corey gets a lot of shit in comments sections of the music tabloids, but man, that dude can sing his ass off. Huge range, ton of power and variety in his voice. Definitely a Type A personality but it seems he's gotten the ego part of that in check and is just a ball of energy.

Jim seems like the kind of dude you could spend hours talking gear with and a pretty chill dude. I dig a lot of his playing and he's another guy I simply don't buy it when he says "I have no clue what I'm playing". Too bad he's not in Stone Sour anymore.

I definitely dig Jay's drumming much more than Joey's, a lot more energy to it and I don't know how much is the mix engineer's choice or Jay's, but I LOVE the drum sounds on the last 2 records. That snare feels like a fucking steel wall dropping down from the sky.

LOVE the new album.
It's brilliant!

My favs as of now are in this order:

1. Not Long for this World
2. Solway Firth
3. Nero Forte
4. Critical Darling
5. Spiders
6. Orphan
7. Unsainted
then the rest :D

they are all insane but the percussion parts on the verses of orphan are mind boggling. how can they do that and then just seamlessly drop into the next part and then come right back into that? fucking nuts.

they have always been great but somehow they have gotten better at writing really catchy choruses. to me that separates them from a lot of other bands. almost anyone can do heavy but not many can do heavy but also get the hooks caught in your head.

i have only seen them live once and it was amazing. they were even down a member. would love to see them again.

Gojira is amazing.

Volbeat probably has the most annoying sounding vocalist I've ever heard in my life.

The new video is amazing! I love how they had mismatched costumes, which is usually not seen with them. The song is a serious banger for sure. Slipknot has caught a lot of shit over the years but what they have done and continue to do is pretty damn amazing considering metal isn't really mainstream these days. They've been my favorite band along with Korn and Deftones for the last 20 years and all 3 of those bands are still making amazing music and basically saying Fuck You to the "norm"
