I have tried the Shiva and liked it. Rafael Ferreira from the Rockstar Supernova house band used the Shiva and it sounded great. Kind of a dumb show but Rafael is a great guitar player with really good tone:

While I see a Bogner cabinet there, I don't see a Shiva. I do, however, see either Matchless or Bad Cat's.

The Matchless side was the other guitar player. Rafael is on the right side of the stage and he definitely plays the Shiva (the guy who plays the lead).

If this is the case, then how do you explain this clip ? Not being an ass or doubting you.......but I'm just confused  Especially 5:00 minutes in.

I've watched that clip at least 20 times. The tone there is freaking awesome. I could NEVER get mine to sound like that.

maybe cause you didnt push your amp with the same gear as rafeal? :D i used to know what he used to drive the amp.. but thats been a little while.

I had the newer model for three months and for me what the amp lacks the most is bottom end. It can do rock, but nothing more modern than 70’s stuff. You have to crank both the MV and CV well past noon for it to start sounding good and at that point the volume is useless for gigs or band practice.

If this is the case, then how do you explain this clip ? Not being an ass or doubting you.......but I'm just confused  Especially 5:00 minutes in.

Fantastic playing. The tone is great, too. Is that you?

No that is not me. Just one of many Shiva videos that I have been checking out. I agree, fantastic playing and tone.

Notice you only get about 30 seconds of "modern" rythym type of sounds? Listen very carefully...very little bottom end and grainy.

I'm not trying to bag on you or the Shiva...just passing along my experiences. I do hope you enjoy the amp because it pretty sweet...just wasn't for me.

My old Shiva was sometimes frustrating when playing at home, but as soon as I would wind it out in a band context it was really good. Sometimes I sounded so good in the mix it almost sounded professionally produced.

Wish it had a tad bit more gain tho.

He probably used a pedal into the clean channel for his gain sound.

Fuck yes. I've wanted a Shiva for a long time now and Rafael's tone on this show was the catalyst. I watched that show week after week just for his playing and glorious tone. No matter whether it was a Strat, Les Paul with hums or P90s, Explorer, whatever, it sounded incredible. I also saw Pink on Friday night and her guitarist, Justin Derrico is a long time Shiva user and he also had incredible tone. Infact it was one of the best tones I've heard live.

Also about the Shiva/Orange cab clip posted up there, I believe he had an MXR/CAE boost pedal switched on during that clip but that's about it.

Mine didn't do that either  I had an older one, but I do know that overall the revised version has quite a bit more gain on tap...that clip is killer.

OP: Congrat's on your purchase! I've got a new 6l6 Shiva head & I friggin' love it! I gig with it every week and it's my main go-to amp! I also own a Diezel Einstein & Herbert and they are awesome, but for some reason, the Shiva & my Les Paul are my favorite combination!

I watched that clip you posted of Justin's and it sounded great. He is a terrific player with great tone!

Just found this and thought the Shiva sounded great here. Really crunchy:

I've had the Shiva for a few days now and I'm really liking it. I'm going to do a full review and maybe some clips later this weekend. But just a few initial impressions:

The clean channel is freaking amazing  I played my strat through CH1 for 3 straight hours last night. It sounds great both with and without the boost function engaged. I love the reverb as well.

And yes, it turns out that it has plenty of gain for me........I was really worried about that. But I really don't care for the boost function on the dirty channel as it seems to add a bit of fizz. However, it might go away at louder volumes. I haven't really opened it up yet. But I much prefer leaving the boost off (gain on the amp around 2:00-3:00) and using my T-Rex MAB as a semi-clean boost. It makes plenty heavy for all types of metal shy of scooped modern stuff. But I don't play that anyway.
