Use to have one back in the 80's. Thing was Stellar. I'm browsing and looking and I'm wondering if this is the normal quality these days? If so, WTF Gibson?
I'm looking at Edwards LP Clones. Night and day. Has Gibson just given up?

Crown inlay with binding and those tuners?

Is that a Chibson?

Nevermind... found it. Around 2004-2007 they had a Les Paul LE model with those features. The few pictures I found on Google had similar stark white binding.

You can still find incredibly awesome REAL Les Pauls on the used market through reputable dealers. PM if you're interested in potential hook ups of re-sellers. I have a small army of Lesters, all perfect and impeccable, many used, but you'd never know it - and they all sound like they woould have come straight off the line of the Gibson factory in the late 50s and pumped through a classic Marshall stack

I'm not an LP guy, strat mostly. Have a family heirloom 78 LP, my uncles old one. Great guitar. But I have an Agile 3010 that is a better player than many LPs (used) that I've tried. They're like 350 shipped, return in 30 days. Not a real LP but if you don't want to drop a lot of coin....

I don't mind coin, but the problem is I'm a real fussy prick. And there's not a ton of places to look and find what I want in person. Then when you are looking on the net, you never get detailed photos, except a few ads, then the detail that I do see is appalling and I'm wondering if I should be looking at similar styles non-gibson. I mean look at that work on that headstock. That's worse than an Epiphone and most of the epiphones I see are better than Les Pauls. And they're selling these for 2k +

WHUT DUH FUCK?

What kind of wood is an Epi LP made out of?
What kind of metal is an Epi LP's bridge made out of?
What kind of metal is an Epi LP's stop tail made out of?
What kind of metal is an Epi LP's fret wire made out of?
What kind of metal is an Epi LP's tuning machines made out of?
What kind of switch and pots go into an Epi LP?
What kind of pickups go into an Epi LP?
What kind of finish goes on an Epi LP?

Anyway, if you really think an Epiphone is a better Les Laul, then go buy an Epiphone Les Paul.

I have come to the conclusion that people who can't find a good quality LP are not really looking. I'm not talking about going into you Guitar center and picking up 4-5 Les Paul that has not been properly adjusted or set up and that 400 people wank on thumb-wheels.

Want an Epi? Buy it but it is not better that a USA gibson not matter how hard you try to convince yourself of that.

There are PoS's in every price lines so yes there are dogs out there I wont touch but the way some people carry on about Gibson its almost like they can build a guitar and that is just not true. I have 3 that bought used and didn't touch them before playing them. Mass produced 2012 Traditional +, and two historics, a 2008 57 RI LPC and a 2009 R7 goldtop...I'm 3 for 3.

What I can agree on is new prices are a bit crazy so I let other people take it in the shorts and buy used.

I would just go with the advice here from guys who have experience with LPs, as I really just have the one good experience...and I've been to guitar center and ranted about those. Hook yourself up with Ventura who I'm sure will steer you to a nice used LP, or check out the classifieds here for a nice buy. Lots of good people who know their LPs.

THIS.

There are "dogs" within every model line, too. But with Gibson (prior to the 2015 price increase :D ), you can definitely get your moneys worth by shopping around, and trying some out in person.

I'm talking about the fit and finish jack, not the components.

Yeah I'm looking at used ones primarily. I'd be more apt to buy one from someone on here or someone that knows someone than some jackoff on Ebay that posts 19 pictures of the guitar but leaves the headstock and fretwork out.

I don't really go to GC anymore. They never have anything that impresses me. Nothing but sub $500 garbage at my local GC.

I don't think the price range I'm in, around 1800 tops is going to get me anything great either.

Go buy a Heritage 157 or 150. You can get a brand new one at 1700. Great builds! I did a little setup work on my 157 and I like it better than the 3 Les Paul Customs I owned. My 2013 8 is another outstanding guitar but for the money the Heritage is way up there.

I've got a real nice '01 LP Classic Premium Plus that I bought new and was my main guitar for many years that I've been contemplating letting go and it's right in your price range. It's definately a good one

I purchased a lefty Traditional Les Paul a few years back. I like the tone however the quality of the finish had some flaws. Esp/LTD would have sold this guitar as a B model. I was going to send it back but because it was a lefty and they only made a few I would not have been able to swap it out for a different one. Also the tuners feel very cheap. The nut needs replaced. The G string keeps getting bound up on the nut. I guess what I am saying is if you pay a bucket of money for a guitar it should probably be perfect correct ? I had a 1983 Gibson Les Paul custom and it was beat up a bit and it was very solid and played and stayed in tune flawlessly. It smelled like smoke and rotten ass and it sounded killer. I think today's quality and craftsmanship has fallen short and what probably used to be not okay is okay today in today's standards. Machining and the X Box generation has made people lazy. The guy building your guitars are more worried about what food he is going too nuke in 30 seconds flat so he can race over and play the Freaking Xbox. In the mean time Sally is crying because the guitar they got in the mail has paint flaws hidden under the pick guard, the tuners are cheap ass plastic and some dumb ass doesn't know how the the intonation works on a left handed guitar they paid 20 % more for. I would go with plan B and if you think you find a good one play the shit out of at the store and make sure it is in tune and everything checks out okay. Right now I am looking at 60.00 or more up grading tuners and at least another 100.00 for a good set up. Just saying.

Said it before and I will say it again nothing but nothing will ever cure the gas for a real Les Paul but a real Les Paul. Currently at 10 from '81 on up and not a dog in the bunch. Some have more magic than others but they are all set up right and nothing beats them.
