So... I went to Guitar Center.

That's ok Jeff, when I sell my Bogner I'll call you first. :D

I ran down to my local GC today and tested a few things. I tried two Gibson Explorers, one with ebony and one with rosewood. I preferred the warmth of the rosewood one. Bridge pickup sounded amazing as hell, but the wasn't a fan of the neck tone. Both had badly cut nuts and overall fit/fish was "meh." I played it through a Mesa Express 5:25, which was a completely mediocre amp. I preferred the older F series combos.

I have a Cameron HG Jose and a Quick Rod at home, a couple of vintage Super Leads, a vintage JCM800 and every boost pedal on the planet and when I play the SL+ module I have trouble getting the smile off my face.
There is something very wrong here......

I went to GC yesterday and finally tried the new JVM 100w 2 channel. The OD red and amber were great, but the "clean" green was totally not clean. I heard it was not as clean as the 4 channel, but damn. That just killed the whole amp for me.

Then I plugged into a DSL100 and realised that is all I need. I wouldn't use the majority of the modes on the JVM. All I really need is a good clean and a good dirty channel with plenty of gain and the DSL fits that bill. I haven't played a DSL in about 5 years and didn't like them then. Plus, I can see my self using all 4 "modes" on the DSL.

My JCM800 is 25 years old George. So vintage right? Sorry dude, JCM800's being vintage means we're old buddy. Sorry to break the news to you.

Also why not send a Plexi module to Dave Friedman to be modded or maybe stratotone does a similar mod? I'd love to sell you a Quick Rod but for $200 for the SL+ module or $300 for a Friedman modded Plexi that'd be much more cost effective. And it will kick ass. All IMHO of course.

Yours and the opinion of a lot of other guitarists. I was at Dave's shop and he had a box load of modules to mod. He not only mods the Plexi module but has great tweaks for all of them.

And his Marshall mods are crazy... Friedman's Angry Hippy mod is so friggin aggressive!!

That's what I always thought was the problem with the 2 channel JVMs. They removed the two best sounds out of the 410H before downsizing it to the 205H. The clean/green and OD1/Orange are perhaps THE best Marshall tones ever! With the 205 you getting the 410's Clean/orange & red, and Crunch/Red for channel one, plus the three modes of the 410's OD2 make up channel two (if I remember correctly what Santiall said). With that, the DSL has a better clean/green channel over the 205. The 205 still has independent tone controls, midi, and dual loops and masters, plus a much better reverb carried over from the 410.

I still get a big chubby every time I plug into the JVM410H and it's been well over a year since the purchase. It just seems to get better and better as time goes on.
