Holy sh*t what a loud amp. I was told you need to get the master up to around 7 before it really sings. I couldn't get it above 3 without cracking the foundation.

7?? Someone pulled a prank on you telling you that.

Yup it is a loud mother! I think it sounds fine with the master between 4 and 6, actually... 7 is just nuts and unnecessary IMO...

Yep. Pollution didn't put a hole in the Ozone Layer, the SLO did.

Volume above 7, presence and treble at 10.
When you get that high pitched ring in your ear like a bomb went off beside you, you've got it.

Glad that everything went good for you (finally)

Don't be tempted to model the "hum" issue into the Axe

Volume at 4 is fine with mine. It's already fooking loud !

4 is where mine really starts to open up (about 11 o'clock, if it was 4 o'clock people would be dying in front of my cab at gigs)

5-6 is ok.
If you think the SLO is loud, than I would not recommend you to buy an OD100.
A friend of mine ran both of them and the OD100 with the rear master set around 4 was a lot louder than the Soldano at 5.

You can't really go by the position of the master volume since it's all about maximum volume vs. knob taper, etc. The OD100 might max out at a master setting of 5 whereas another amp might max out at 10. I don't doubt the OD100 is loud but the SLO just feels like a small nuclear reactor nearing meltdown. The transformers are massive and the B+ is around 500 volts.

Ya know what they say about loud and old, right? :-)

Yeah, but the SLO's volume is linear...a lot of amps just get marginally louder past 12 o'clock...the SLO keeps adding the same amount of volume, per notch.

Cliff, you should hear my Mesa Mark III Coliseum - 180 watts. :D

I don't know about the tapers, I can only rely on my personal experience. The OD100 is ridiculously loud and definitely not maxing out on 5.
The SLO was running on a 4x12 with G12H the OD100 2x12 CAA cab with Governors. The OD100 was just slaying the SLO on sheer volume. It can be a lot of factors, tone stack positions, speaker types, cab, whatever.
The SLO is a great amp and it freakin' loud too.
