When you have the arrogance to say/think any of the following:

You have a signature sound
You don't think tone woods make a difference in your guitar's or rig's sound
You view your rig as size related or think that a big rig is related to ego and a small meat and potatoes rig is better or vise versa.
You don't realize that all pieces of gear are just tools for expression and how you use them is what matters.
Your RT moniker is axemeaquestion.

Glassy, I'm the farthest thing from an elitist.

1)I'm hanging around with the common folk.
b)I'm not advocating spending $10K on a rig when you can have everything you'd need for far less than that.

No, it's people that use X patterns for their speakers in their cabinets that are the elitists.
Why??? What if it sounds better than 4 of the same speakers? What you are saying makes no sense! By saying that your opinion is better than another, you are in fact being an elitist douche. Let's say you like the sound of V30's, but the mid spike is just a bit too pronounced for your liking. So you put a couple 75's or H30's in your cab and you like the sound much more and it makes you happy and want to play more. What is wrong with that? That's the same thing as saying if you don't play a 112 combo, you are an elitist. It just doesn't make any sense. There are different types of gear for a reason. Imagine if Joe Bonamasa played a banjo. He wouldn't be quite the same player now would he? He chose the gear that he plays for a reason, just like every other artist did. Who knows what Hendrix would have played had he the choices that we have these days? Maybe he would have a wall of rack gear. It makes no difference why someone plays what they play. It's all about using the tools you need to make you happy.

For me the elitist douche is someone who judges an amp by where its made or if it is PTP or not.

I do get tired of some of the snobbery, I think we often spend too much time on the little things and ignore the art of making music. I find more elitist douches in the recording sector than I do on the guitar gear forums. While I think recording is an art, some folks will run you down if you are even attempting to record without having a degree and super high end stuff.

I see what you're saying but there's a fine line there. Historically, most of the Chinese amps have been garbage. Although more recently we have seen some better quality builds coming from there, it will still take some time to overcome the justifiable bias that had been created.

As for PTP vs PCB, its far from black & white. Are there well made PCB amps that sound great and use top quality components? Absolutely, and I'd be happy to own one if I liked it. That said, an amp with a thin PCB with single sided traces, cheap components, and board mounted tube sockets is essentially a problem waiting to happen IMO. It has nothing to do with being elitist...its all about what makes for a quality build. They may sound good and may even appear to be reliable for the bedroom player, but they simply aren't made to withstand the rigors of being hauled in and out of clubs night after night and played for hours on end on a near daily basis. Tone may subjective, but build quality is not. A willingness to pay a premium for quality is far from "elitist".

And 1/2 the members of the Boogie Board.

And Im there alot. And I like X patterns....wait a minute....Oh Shit!

I gotta go......

How about when you spend all your time on gear forums, then after a while you begin to acquire a bit of knowledge on gear, you have a comment/suggestion on every piece of gear that is mentioned in every thread.

You know....the mighty, self-appointed, internet guru on gear...the definitive last word.

From Bogner's site on PCB construction: http://www.bogneramplification.com/cust ... cboard.php

Lots of good stuff. I just threw up the poll because it seems I've seen a lot of threads with post saying basically that if you can afford anything nice, and believe it sounds better than something that is a clone of said equipment, or sounds better than something more economical - you must be a talentless elitist douche.

To me you are as much a talentless douche if you dismiss gear without even trying it because of it's expense as you are if you dismiss gear simply because of it's lack of expense. Anyone with real talent is open to all possibilities of improving, and will at least give things a try before condemning them.

Really tired of feeling like I have to apologize because I made some $ along the way. I have been around the best players and gear for a while, and they use everything from a $5 pedal to a $500 dollar tube. As some Zen dude said once - "it's the journey, not the destination." IDK Oprah could have said it for all I know, but man I wish everybody would quit bashing on everyone's gear simply based on cost. High or low. Rant over. :D

Thanks for posting my brothers...

I think you took my post personal, sorry about that. I was trying to refer to people who have poorly thought out reasons for their preferences. I have seen posts of people who will dismiss an amp for being PCB, ignoring that there are well built PCB amps and poor built PCB amps.

I myself have a negative bias toward Behringer and Bugera products, I just don't like the practices their company engages in, nor their quality track record. I also looked down on the Line 6 Spider III amp that my church has, not a Line 6 fan in general or a fan of the Spider series. But after hearing and playing it more, I have changed my opinion to finding it okay. It still broke down and now they have a Spider IV, which I think sounds better. I still far prefer my own amps to the Spider III or IV. So maybe I have some Elitist roots. I just try to not make people feel bad about their gear choice, like if you don't own 'this ____', you got nothing. I have seen a number of people do that, and I think that is being an elitist Douche.

Exactly. It should be left open to opinion. Everyone chooses what they like and what they play based on what works for them, period. Who cares why they like what they like? Now that's my definitive last word.

Someone that posts constantly, thinking they know so much, to me it shows a lack of intelligence.
An intelligent person would know it's not very smart to act like that.

I didn't take it personal...simply tried to add some clarification where I thought it was due.

Apparently when I tell people that I prefer progressive metal to Metal Core and say that 95% of it is shit. And the fact that I'm a teenager who genuinely likes jazz makes me a douchebag.

Also because I disagree with the statement that every scene band has tonnes of talent

As for gear.. I often judge gear before playing it. Based on demos or whatnot.
