my neighbor and now my best friend started music when he was 5 years old. music runs in his family, his father played. when i first saw and heard a 5150 full stack and him playing the fucking piss out of a wolfgang that i would learn later to be one of the prototypes peavey made with rosewood and eddie possibly played ($5,000+ guitar custom order sheet, long story as to how he got it and why)
his band in high school (different than one i attended, another long story) was very well known for the music they played and are extremely talented. can play anything from EVH to SRV to whitesnake to kansas to 60's songs. very van halen influenced and blues influenced, ive somewhat inspired him into the heavier playing (sweeping, etc)
he is a major signed christian artist now looking for a drummer in the area, has his own CD out, working on a second album, and does covers around the area. sings and plays at the same time (i still cant do that
)
but yeah, the 5150 roar is what got me hooked. i said "i want to do this" but i did not want to own two cabinets and a guitar head unless my playing could back it up. i refused to not be able to play properly, and would not allow myself to buy the gear up front - i earned my way over time IMHO - 13-14 years later, ive got my 5150 II, two 5150 cabinets, had my own wolfgang and sold it last year for one of my dream guitars - an all snow white ESP M-II, and a playing style that is always improving
i bought one of his cabinets, and bought my straight cabinet from CA. i believe this was 5 years ago. the cabinets will stay even though the speakers might not. the amplifier will stay with me for as long as i live. i only see me adding onto this and not trading/selling. alot of sentimental value, personal value, and moral values with this gear. its got me through hard times and great times with shows, recordings, and putting wow's on people's faces the same my best friend did for me when we were both barely teens. im still young and still have music to thank for some great friends and experiences. i have owned this rig for almost 6 years now - never sold or traded any of it.
oh yeah, and seeing REO speedwagon - free - in downtown charlotte, NC was also a part of it. never have seen anyone else not use, but abuse a whammy bar like that in a musical way - it put dimebag to shame, and sent chills up my spine. raw talent there.
