So when doing a local sale….

Buying or selling; I’ll do cash, PayPal or Zelle.

Cash is definitely the norm IME, but I always go straight to the bank & deposit it.

Latex gloves to prevent transfer of covid, mask, a hi cap 9mm pistol in case I'm robbed plus two spare magazines and a rifle in the truck in case it gets serious, handcuffs, blues police badge, autoclave for sterilizing the cash, my favorite pair of Carlos ™️ by Carlos Santana sneakers in case of a foot chase, good to go.
That's actually a reality considering Fentanyl contaminated dollar bills and other items so I've been hearing so you're not far off there Von.......

I like the way you think CoreyW. I'm guessing you are the sort of classy guy whose gear has more mini toggles on it than the average Rig Talker.

I probably will disappoint you on this, while I’ve got the pedals and guitars that would justify the complete color selection of slacks and santanas, I heavily prefer using a modeler.

But, that does not stop me from being able to enjoy for others enjoying some of the finer things.

For one, I am a bit to white to pull off a purple extended length suit, I can appreciate those who are able to nail wearing one.

Haha very funny Corey. Now you're just messing with me. Menus are for Waffle House bro.

Purple and white are matching colors. Don't be afraid to be you. Browse a few JAMES TYLER GUITARS and see for yourself.

Wife is indicating Venmo has some protection/options. We are moving more and more to local and FB transactions as we feel we can trust people in our neighborhood more so long distance. Because I was not super familiar with what the Venmo protection was I found this:

Venmo provides Purchase Protection for eligible sales (usually via Business Profiles or tagged "Goods and Services") which protects sellers against unauthorized transactions and claims of non-receipt or missing items. It prevents buyers from easily reversing payments, but requires sellers to provide proof of delivery/fulfillment.

Key Protection Details for Sellers:
Protection Type: Covers items that are significantly different from what was promised, items damaged during shipping, or items that never arrived.
Eligibility Requirements: Seller must use a Business Profile or the buyer must tag the payment as a "Good or Service" in the app.

Costs: A fee of 1.9% + $0.10, or 2.99% for business profiles, applies to protected sales.

Required Documentation: To succeed in a dispute, you must provide proof of fulfillment (e.g., shipping tracking numbers or proof of delivery).
Unauthorized Transactions: Protection helps secure you from loss if a buyer uses a stolen account or card.

Limitations:
Personal Payments: Regular peer-to-peer (P2P) payments between friends are not covered by this program.
Frozen Accounts: A single fraudulent dispute can sometimes result in a frozen account.

Majority of my transactions are in person. Always cash. Always meet somewhere in public. Local music shop, GC, another local business, or your work if they’re cool with it. Doesn’t hurt to bring a homie with you. One time I had a guy bring his gnomie with him.. When he jumped out the car he was a stout 3’10”. I had a 72year old grandpa with me so it felt evenly matched.. However I didn’t know what moves he had up his sleeve nor did I want to find out. Kept his hands in his pocket the whole time.. Bout the most nervous I’ve been.. Other than that the other 99% of the musicians I’ve met are just chill down to earth stoners..

I always have them come to my house. It is always cash. When i buy something, i pay extra for them to bring it to me. I have never had issues.

Idk smash; I like ease and most of the time there won’t be an issue as most people don’t wake up thinking “I’m gonna fuck someone up today on marketplace”. But if you do enough business on social media and sell shit; some freak will come out of the ground and the might bite. No one comes to my home for sales. Who is to say they won’t be back later for nefarious intentions. You might not be there which is bad. Or you might be there which is worse, especially at two in the morning. You have about 10 seconds in preparation to defend yourself while awakening from a full sleep.

That is why I sleep with a Glock 17 right next to me, 10 seconds is not much time.
I truly believe most people you sell to are very cool people, but all it takes is one loser.

I do speak to people by phone before meeting and usually I can get a good sense of who they are, but I still prefer meeting out of the home.

Exactly the point. If someone comes creeping; there is typically a really bad ending. And it doesn’t end for the survivor. It’s litigation for years and mental torment forever.
A side note since I’m a gun guy and own a gun store as well; when people come to me for concealed carry, what weapon, defense etc…. My first question is “are you willing to take a life away”? I make them think about it for a while before we get into the mix. Things will get very up close and personal and you have no time to think. If you question at the threshold of your bedroom door; you are dead. 😒.
Sorry this thread has taken a turn but bad shit happens and it’s worth thinking about prior to a potential event.
