They almost come that way. Nothing fancy at all.
Matte finish with no binding or fancy inlays or figuring.
Already drilled a hole in each of the top horns to change
the strap button location.

Actually just thought of the right answer. The production design is only a few years old.

Yeah, the whole "well that guitar MUST be a great guitar because its been played to hell and back and this guy still chooses to play that ugly thing" mystique just wouldn't work on any new design. It would be an obvious fraud.
