I assume there are varying degrees of it, but as long as I can remember now I have the sound of cicadas in my head at all times. I'm so used to it I don't even think about it unless I'm talking about tinnitus with someone.

Yeah same. The tinnitus is so loud at night. I just try to ignore it. I definately have a bad ear for eq'ing on the right side. Sometimes I completely lose hearing for a few moments on one side. Between playing out, motorcycling, and stamping work, my ears are worn out.

I wear alpine plugs if I play at volume now. Have any of you noticed when playing at volume, with plugs in, that you have a hard time hearing if you are on the right note? Not from the plugs, but more from an overload.

Same thing. I've had ringing in my ears long before I played guitar or was exposed to loud sounds. Just reading your post tuned me into it but I usually tune it out. If I focus on it, it seems louder.

I’m pretty sure mine is from being in front of stacks of amps since I was about 14. Can’t be from the shooting because unlike the gigging we all knew we needed ear pro for that. No one ever thought about it for jamming though.

Mine isn’t that bad. My hearing in my right ear is definitely not as good as my left anymore but it’s not that bad.

I'm the opposite. My left ear is the sacrificial anode for gigs, as I usually take stage right if I'm fronting.

I think mine is from a combination of loud amps, pounding on shit with hammers, and racing around in big block mopars with open headers.

Exactomundo.

Yup.

It's cicadas alright.

Intersting. That correlates with what I’m experiencing. And yes, I’m training myself not to panic at it. It feels pretty devastating sometimes that this will be something I’m stuck with, so I try and chill out about it. Could be much worse.
That's the way bro'.

I'll bet that all of us who have it and are reading this thread are more-aware of it right now.

That's how it goes.

I honestly think motorbikes are what caused it for me rather than amps.

SO ..... con't'd : after a couple weeks me & the main guy of the group i posted about he's an open heart surgeon [not kidding] and
works 7 days a week which is understandable. The :group" was mainly to give his young son some drum time. [out of their house].
I resisted posting he was a surgeon as to avoid TGP jokes LOL. But great people. He also told me they had no plans to "play out".
I had 2 other band offers been trading emails all week but after a week of playing "online message tag" seems that has fizzeled out too.
I can always go back to the first group but my hearts not into playing a Vox AC-15 and i was going deaf in that small room so back to square one : SNAFU'd.
Moving foreward ------------------------------------------->

FYI... I'm playing this coming Saturday at The Boathouse in St Charles if they will still let you back in the county. lol

I'm a million times nicer in person than online.
How did the boathouse gig go ? Looks like the rain quit after 4p yesterday.
