"Theres a reason many world class players choose an SLO over other amps" .
Then most of those same players sell them and go back to their modified Marshall's and Fenders after a few years of using them , back to where it all started .

yeah me too..though I'm not a world class player. Just can't justify a 2500 amp when I love a good Marshall just as much. But my point was more to the 5150 comparison. Any number of those players (Clapton, Moore, Haynes, DeMartini, Lynch) would easily have gotten an endorsement by Peavey if they really thought the 5150 was the same. And then they wouldn't have to actually buy the amps, which they did from Soldano. Like I said, just get yourselves your 5150s, SLO clones, whatever. I feel bad for the dude who spends 2K on a SLO clone and has it built by someone, hence the high cost. When he could have saved 400 more and gotten the real thing used. And when/if they sell the SLO they will get their money back. If they sell the clone ....maybe 800-1k.
Nobody builds an SLO Clone because it's cheaper. As you pointed out, it doesn't make sense when you can just get a used one. People build SLO Clones because they enjoy the process of actually building an amp. I can go out and buy an SLO right now. But I won't. Because I understand that I can get "my sound" from pretty much any high-gain amp. I just like to build. It's fun.
Look at Killswitch Engage. They've used EVERY high-gain amp under the freaking sun and their sound NEVER changes. They've used Diezels, Framus, Mesa, Peavey, Splawn, and yes... even the SLO. But hey... their "tone" stays the same lol. That's because no matter what amp you use, you're gonna dial it to sound like what you hear in your head.
