The SLO is the best amp I've ever plugged into. With that said, Friedman and Fortin make some awesome amps as well.

Write down the amps on pieces of paper, put them in a Crown Royal bag and draw one. There is a good chance you will be happy with any of these amps.

I have an SLO with the depth mod, and I love it to death!

I would get the modded marshall but the soldano may be the better pick for u if u need the ability to switch to clean channel. Also, it depends what type of music, for modern metal stuff the slo may be a better pick. Some of the best tones for my taste have been through modded marshalls though.

As has been stated: both are great choices. And that's why you should get both!

Technically 1987 I believe, but from what I've heard, it really doesn't matter the year...just happy to be joining the SLO family!

Cool. We're growing!

Give a shout if it doesn't work for you. I will take it off your hands.

i live by my SLO......it was my ''go to'' amp forever so i sold all my others as they were not getting used and bought different speaker cabs instead so i could do my classic rock gigs with bogner/4x12 greenbacks and my hard rock/metal gigs with my soldano 4x12 and small small gigs with a 2x12 or 1x12 bogner......always the slo for the brain....
if stolen i would replace it with another in a NY minute

For the last 20 something years I would have answered this question without even thinking about it. Modded Marshall. I have had some time to play a Soldano SLO recently and I have to tell you guys that the SLO is one of my favorite amps I have EVER heard. I admit, I was kind of prejudiced against it. 6L6 tubes. Eddies tone not being as cool when he switched to Soldano and a few other reasons. I retract all that.

The Soldano freaking rules!

Our old buddy compared a SLO to a 6505. On video they sound identical.

i have an slo sitting atop a 6534+

i assure you that while you can dial them up to sound somewhat similiar, they are very different amps.

the slo is way puchier and more articulate.

I've owned both. They are not identical. I thought they were very different. I made a video where I had the 5150 and the bossted VM sound pretty similar but they are pretty different in the room. The SLO is clearer, bigger mids.

I would suggest go with a nicely modded Marshall, and put the other grand into an MCP Detroiter pickup, a first or second run OCD for gain boost, and a 4x12 with V30's

Back to the OP...

SLO all the way.

Why. Well, because you can get a Marshall and mod the snot out of it any day. There`s a reason so many are modded - it`s because no one`s really stoked as they are stock

SLO is SLO, they rip.

Just my $0.02

I like The Splawn version of the modded Marshall Tone

But the SLO sounds awesome too:

Pick what sounds great to you...
