in my opinion I prefer the sound of the slo with the effects loop, i think it is a important part of the slo sound.

i have played both versions, and I prefer the one with the loop.

i felt the same when I had mine. hardly ever used the fx loop cut switch.

Ok so if my clients pay me this week and since I sold my Axe II should I jump on a deal for a used SLO? :D
One of the few amps left I want to add to the stable  And I like the color BUT…it has the effect loop…can I get the mod with the switch that will take it in or out of the circuit?

From what I can tell has Clean/Crunch, Depth mod Effect loop, 2 mini switches next to the Volume Bright/normal Crunch/Clean, and Line out

Anything I should want or look for?
$2800 + shipping about right?

 :scared:

I bought mine for $2400 and sold it for a $2350. It had the fx loop cut, WH mod and depth mod. This was about 5 years ago though. I think prices have gone up on the new ones now.

Would you say the SLO is Stiffer than a 20th Xtc?

I guess I would. There's a bit more give and elasticity to the feel of an XTC, although I wouldn't describe an SLO as being 'stiff'. It's also has a bit more of a fundamental note and less bloom by comparison. Very honest amp that has a certain 'sheen' to the high end and smoothness of the 6L6's in there...not your typical Marshall crunch/kerrang and very little in common with an XTC. Once you get up to 4 or louder on the master it comes to life. I LOVED it for leads, just the cleans and rhythm tones weren't what I wanted...but, it is definitely a king of the stage sorta amp...if you can play your ass off it will reward you like few others.

The SLO has gobs of headroom and is loud as fuck too.

I luv the tone of a LP and SLO with leads. That singing, soul pouring out tone, like the amp is alive. My xtc gets that way when cranked and next thing you know 3 hours are gone. But the SLO has that sweet singing lead I luv. To me the 20th X is like a Cadillac, very comfy, lots of options. The SLO is the Chevy hot rod tuned for racing and you can feel every bit of the road, raw power.

I don't think it's an issue with liking it, but affording it

You say that like its a problem

Not a problem, just an observation.

Where the XTC will be chewy and elastic, the SLO will be firm and harder hitting. But when cranked it delivers the goods in spades.
My SLO is the only amp that gets so loud it made my previous drummer jump the first time I cranked it and hit a chord.

  This thread is making me miss my SLO just when I decided to buy a Uber TJ as my next amp.

SLO is much better than a Twin Jet!

However, I prefer the "Revision Blue" Uberschall over the SLO these days! Those are easier to find and have a better loop and clean channel.

This is true. The SLO and the Diezel VH4 always seem to bring the best resale value, and both are around the $2700 - $3200 range.
Sorry did you write something?…..

All I saw was your avatar grabbing her boobs

The SLO through the Two Notes Torpedo Live is great. Running it without a cab is very cool. I saw a couple of posts on here about the FX loop bypass. It does make a slight bit of audible difference with the loop bypassed, but not enough to be concerned about. The loop on the amp is fine as long as you have a level or send control on your pedals or multi-FX. You really need to find a way to run the master on the SLO up around 10:00 or higher to get the good from this amp.

Man I keep hearing that 'you have to have at least at 10 or higher to get it to sound good...that's just never been my experience though. Here's a clip of my SLO loaded into a Hotplate > Garage Band w/Own Hammer Scumback M75 IRs...and the master is at "1". Sounds pretty huge and chewy to me.

Oh and needless to say: I will be going the Torpedo Live / Atomic CLR route very soon!

SLO sounds great at any volume, IMHO. You have to turn the controls in some pretty wild directions if the master's down real low, but once you do it sounds thick and smooth and harmonically rich at the lowest volume I'd be interested in ever using.
