Soldano Slo ----possible :) Should I ???? UPDATE!!!

The SLO is a nice amp. The 2oth xtc is a nice amp. Just different flavors. I'd say buy one closer to $2400 if you can be patient. I've seen pure mint SLOs with all the mods sit for weeks and not sell @ $2500. Not saying all of them do but more do then don't . So if it turns out you don't like the SLO and you bought it at 2800+ be prepared to lose some money if you NEED to move it.

That said, I bet you'd be happy with it! So it just depends on how bad you want it and how long you can hold out for a better deal.

The SLO through the Two Notes Torpedo Live is great. Running it without a cab is very cool. I saw a couple of posts on here about the FX loop bypass. It does make a slight bit of audible difference with the loop bypassed, but not enough to be concerned about. The loop on the amp is fine as long as you have a level or send control on your pedals or multi-FX. You really need to find a way to run the master on the SLO up around 10:00 or higher to get the good from this amp.
Man I keep hearing that 'you have to have at least at 10 or higher to get it to sound good...that's just never been my experience though. Here's a clip of my SLO loaded into a Hotplate > Garage Band w/Own Hammer Scumback M75 IRs...and the master is at "1". Sounds pretty huge and chewy to me.

Oh and needless to say: I will be going the Torpedo Live / Atomic CLR route very soon!

Nice tone and playing!!!

The SLO sounds good at any volume but at 10:00 at up it becomes a magical singing machine!!!!! :rawk:

SLO is much better than a Twin Jet!

However, I prefer the "Revision Blue" Uberschall over the SLO these days! Those are easier to find and have a better loop and clean channel.

Two completely different amps...I sold the SLO and still have the Twin Jet.

Next to a couple of my Marshall mods, and a Diezel, the SLO has outlived most of my whoring in the last 5 or 6 years. It's simply a bad ass, dependable amp with a signature base tone. One secret to the SLO is to stop fucking with it. I went back to stock JJ pres and stock Sovtek 5881's. the one I kept had the 3 mods. I found a good combination of pedals in the loop which works for me is the BBE Sonic Stomp and the Deep Blue Delay for a little ambiance. The BBE (I normally don't like this pedal) works well to bring a bit of depth from the amp and widen it out a bit. I also use a front loaded V30 Diezel cab. But, of late, running it without a cab with the Two Notes is phenomenal. You can really get the frequencies to shine when you can run the gains lower and the masters up a bit. It will fill up your sonic space.

Was it the Dual over drive (2 Channel 2's) one?

Got the funds :D Think I will ride it out and see if anyone bids on it.

It will take 3 days for Paypal to transfer cash to my bank anyway. :)

So we will see how it goes in 4 days :scared: If not all my CC will be paid off  So its a Win/Win either way.

How is the SLO through a Bogner 20th XTC cab???

Am I going to have to get a Soldano 2x12 or 412 cab?

Steve K what IR, Mic and any Eq are you using through the Torpedo Live?

Best cab speakers for it? Think classic rock to Warren Haynes type music…

Damn I didn't even think about a cab

Run mine through my Mesa Recto 4x12 cabs with V30s and it crushes.

Thats cool at least I have V30s in the Bog 412.

I have been looking at the old Mesa 412 open/closed halfbacks with the upper closed for my Mk V but just scored a 1x12 combo cab with MC90 and casters  Just insert head :D Thought I would give that a try. Should be here Tuesday. That frees up my 2 1x12 cubes if I decide to go w/d/w and I can use them for my Mk III.

I've run the SLO through V30s, a quad of greenbacks, and now a quad of Celestion G10L-35 speakers (the ones that come in the old Marshall 1965 cabs), and it sounds great through all of them. I play AiC type hardrock/metal. My experience with the SLO has really not been what I was expecting based on Internet reviews that suggested it has a terrible master volume and is very picky about speakers. It's been the opposite to me. Great master volume and sounds cool with whatever cabs I have laying around.

Whew good to know. That eases my speaker concern a little. I guess I can always run it through the Two notes live and see what I like in that lil unit to get a better idea.

Well, I'm not as cute as Steve K. but -

I use the Eddie cab IR and the 87 mic, no eq. That is with my SLO head. I like the 87 because it seems to have a high mid presence that makes the tone pop. It is also more "in the room" sounding to me. The 57 seems a little smoother and compressed - more like a recorded tone. Now, I can get great tones with either mic by simply repositioning the mic from center out. Just depends which mic. I currently am only at 4% which I think is almost dead center. It is very articulate this way. The stock position was 42%.

Now with an X99 and the power sim I used lots of different cabs. The key here was to find the power amp sim and the stage (Pentode or Tri) that worked well together and then demo the cabs. I would find a cab IR that I thought WTF and then I would go back and change the power amp and flip the pentose/tri and all of a sudden I got it. The V30 ir works great with the PP-EL34 on tri - at least for me. And when I first tried the ppel34 it is in pentode mode and I disliked it a lot - flipped the switch and bam - good tunes. This is my favorite single coil IR for more classic tones.

Point is you have to play with it a little.

The mic and cab I use are a little lowend-ish, but by placing the mic toward the center it cleans up. I found this better than having a mic/cab that had a higher end response and pulling the mic from center to darken it up. Just my preference. Kind of finding my base tone with the cab/mic combo and using the mic position to dial it in.

:)

If I win the Auction I will try it out. Thanks for the Advise. I haven't played with the Torpedo much but from the amour of time or lack of time I should say it is amazing. I just redid my whole rig and working on Programing the GT Mastermind for 3 amps. Hopefully I will be able to add the SLO :D

I use the British V30 cab sim and a 57. Moved the mic a little off center. I ride the presence a little high on the amp. I just turn the EQ on and cut the upper mids a bit and the high. With the FRFR monitors, it doesn't need much help.
