Hakko 888D, with all the pickup swapping I do, it's paid for itself many times over.

I have been using an Aoyue 496 for the past 10 years and have a bunch at my work as well. Very cheap and compact, variable heat control and use T-style tips that a lot of other manufacturers use so, it's all interchangeable. Not sure if they still do that exact model but i'm sure there are plenty like it.
