Hey Danno, have you owned a Savage? If so, how does it compare with the Fireball?
For me the Savage was more 'thick' sounding. If that makes sense. The fireball (at least to me) just seems meaner and tighter.
But that Savage is no Joke. (I never played or heard the SE savage though)
Before I got this fireball I was on the look for another Savage actually. :D

Actually glad this Fireball 100 popped up on the radar. I am really digging it!
Thanks man, definitely gonna try one out in the future. I've also got an Engl Retro Tube 100 and it's also a killer. It's got more sag than the Fireball, but not too much. It sounds like an Engl meets a Marshall. Engl tone and aggression with Marshally EL-34 mids. Loves me some Engl.

My Best Engl meets Marshall was channel 3 on the Invader 150! :inlove:
Holy hell does that channel alone sell me on that amp.

Thanks Jordan and Scotty for checking it out.
This is my 2nd go around with this amp. And it still sounds as good as I remembered it when I first had it.
Just a Bad Mo' Fo'

I concur! The Fireball 100 is one mean, tight, raw, punchy and downright nasty box of metalfuckinfun :rawk: It's blisteringly LOUD as well!
I've had mine 2 years in addition to an EVH 5153 50 watt, EVH 100 watter, engl Blackmore, and a peavey triple XXX 2. There all gone and the Fireball is here to stay.

Not that it really matters for those that buy this amp:
A tube screamer type OD in the clean channel with some lower output pups cops some pretty awesome classic rock tones as well!

We just had a band jam. Had the gain on real low. No boost.
was doing old rock songs. Kiss Accept Thin Lizzy....etc.
That amp was just really punchy and clear gain.
More I play it the more I am bonding with it again. :D

No its not over compressed . It's more "raw/open" then my recto.
It's just heavy and brutal. Engl makes some really good amps. This is my 4th one. And if your looking for something that bowls over most high gain amps without breaking your wallet?
Get this kick ass German made killing machine. :D

Right you are my friend. This amp while heavily saturated, maintains an amazing raw openness to it it. Sounds, fast, thick and tight and seems to bark as opposed to squishing under compression.

I'm hoping my incoming Savage 120 is equally mean, tight, raw and pissed off as the Fireball 100 only different if that makes sense. Ithink it should be considering the FB 100 is low mid based vs. the Savage 120's upper mid emphasis.

I can see that working to for rock stuff. I need to re-visit some classic rock on it now that I got some lower output pups in my LP. The Painkillers in my metal axe don't do rock tones in my opinion!

I have a pretty high gain pickup in that ESP. Dimarzio X2N.
But it plays super sharp and focused.
I love that pickup. Recently put it in all my guitars.

Just to give you guys some more Fireball tastiness, here are a few riffs I recorded with the Fireball100. These were just ideas "spur of the moment shit" that I wanted to capture before I forgot what the hell I had just played. This isn't to showcase my shitty playing and lack of recording skills guys, its just to give an idea of the FB100's nasty voicing and tightness.

Just created this Soundcloud acct, so first time doing this type of thing. Hopefully you can just click the link or copy/paste into a browser.

No boost, onboard noise gate at full, guitar straight in:

I never tried sound cloud. Easy to work?
I am up in the air on that sound gate. Never used one before. But I know the amp is noisy with it off.

Simple to set up man. I just created an acct., uploaded the files 10 minutes before copying/pasting the links here.

I have no idea if it worked or not though? Anyone able to listen to the clips?

Yeah, I don't use the on-board noise gate ever, or any gate for that matter. I used it on that one clip because my boost pedal died and the palm mutes weren't tight enough and that was honestly the 1st time using it. I kinda think the built in gate is sub-par really, but hell never used any other gate, so what the fuck do I know   .

It's a common misconception with Engl noise gates. Most try to use them to gate that whole signal for suppressing feedback. I did the same thing at first. :)It's really just there for hum and hiss from the channels, even though I've never needed it.

I never use the noise gates on any of my Engls. I just turn off the volume knob if I need to. ISP Decimator pedal also helps.

The FB100 sounds pretty mean in the clips above.

I honestly don't get much noise at all unless I'm parked right in front of the amp and never felt the need to use the on-board gate to cancel hum/feedback. I would like to try a Decimator type pedal one of these days those just to see how stupid tight the FB 100 would get on start stop stuff.

Thanks man!

Hey on a side note Wizard, Do you (if you still have one), or did you find the Savage 120 more compressed, "Hi-Fi", or "processed" sounding then the FB100? I'm referring to the post 2011/2012 model with the updated/larger output transformer.

Nope. Definitely a more open/raw sound on most settings. I however only really use the Savage for channel 4, contour on, deep off, rough mode, gain at 3:00, presence at 3:00... this is the best sound in that box IMHO. It has much more of a upper-mid, less saturated, less chunky, Marshall 2203 sound as compared to the other Engl amps. The Blackmore and E530 preamp have similar core tone, with a bit less preamp gain and features... if you're considering the Savage. I really dig the Savage, but I've been using my SE EL34 as my main amp due to the versatility and for the simple fact it has 2 lead channels I really dig... plus the gazillion modes/settings. The Savage is still a arse kicking amp though.

Raw/open is what I like to hear.
I'll have to keep those settings in mind for ch 4. Thanks for the tip there!
Marshall 2203 type sound, that sounds promising!
I have one on its way! Should be here Thursday/Friday!!!

Cool. You'll dig it. Also remember the gain knobs on channel 3 & 4 are additive... to get more gain on channel 4 crank up the channel 3 gain knob to 3:00 or thereabout. It's a quirk in the Savage 120 preamp design. When I got my first one several years back, the lack of gain had me scratching my head till I figured this out. Enjoy it!
