...Or help me find one!

I'm guessing at this point it's going to be hard, but I've got a hankerin' and I've got the cash, anybody?!?

I was gonna link you to the one in the classifieds, but you already found it.....

good luck, would love to hear what you'd do with one....

Tell me something, what do you think about the Cameron modded JMP versus RI Marshalls? I'm concerned about the transformer difference in relation to tone. I was not happy with my 1959RI back in the day, though of course this is quite a bit different.

The whole "its new" thing doesn't matter to me. I've beat the shit out of old Marshalls and they always keep going!

I believe there are 2 Cameron Marshalls for sale in the classifieds.
Good luck on your hunt.

yeah the one in the classifieds is being passed around like a saturday night whore.

IMHO the best thing to do is just sit back and start looking hard. patience is a virtue with cameron marshalls.

i too wanted an older cameron once upon a time - but since cameron went out of business the prices just sky-rocketed. no way i can afford one - ever.

however though, this is the best place on the net to find one of those marshalls.

maybe theres a few people here you can talk to? heres a better idea - maybe you can sweet talk dave

honestly man, I can't tell you on the Trannies, the preamps COMPLETELY different and reworked, but FWIW, the Cameron is ABSOLUTELY the BEST amp I've EVER played. period. bedroom volumes or retardo volumes, those fuckers just sound AMAZING.

granted, I'm on a whole other sub-level of playing than you, I'm a thrash guy, so the tones I go after are alot different than you, but I think that the Cameron could add something really cool to what you do. give it a try, if you dont like it, more than likely you wont lose any money on it.

hope that helps alittle

Honestly Shea, forget overspending for a Cameron when you can get a Fortin Cali mod.

+1 Hook up with Fortin Bro.

+1000000

The Fortin stuff is also capable of a wider range of tones IMO. I can go from old school boosted plexi to all out flamethrower type gain and everything inbetween. All with zero noise even at the highest volume/gain levels, due to the DC Heater setup

Being the tight wad I am I no longer get tight in the pants when I see a Cameron for sale due to the fact I can get a Fortin Cali cheaper and they are very very simular in the tone and gain department. If I had a Cameron I would not have gone Fortin as well, both are awesome amps but the key is that Mike is readily available right now. IMO the Cameron has a touch more hair and compression working from what I heard but I am sure that was due to the settings, Pyschodave would be a better reference since he also played them back to back and owns several Cameron Jose mods.

About the SLP question, mine just blasts with the stock trannies and Mike really likes that platform for his Cali mod if that helps.

Hope this really fucked with your head and confused the shit out of you

Damn you Fortin whores!

Yeah that Cameron on the classifieds is definitely expensive. I've never spent that much on an amp before. :aww:

I like the idea of the FX loop on the reissue though. To be honest my benchmark for tone is Dave's Cameron vid. That tone is amazing. Of course Dave is a kick ass player which certainly doesn't hurt.

If I decide to go the Fortin route, should I have him mod an amp or get one of the big dogs? I don't need more than one channel. Basically I want a sweet hot rodded Marshall like those Camerons but that can (if any chance at all) roll of gain with the volume knob. Just one really dynamic channel, y'know?

I do have an amp that I'm willing to get modded, but I don't know how much of a pain in the ass it would be:

That big transformer is some weird military thing, and could be one of the reasons I don't like the way that amp sounds. It's weird. It's sort of this Mesa-ish sounding Marshall hybrid thing. The original designer said something about it being based off a Matchless but it doesn't sound like one. The clean channel is pretty nice though.

Yeah it really is ridiculous that amps that were going for $1800 two or three months ago are now listed for $2500+. That said I'm still considering the Aldrich in the classifieds

I've also been eyeing the Landry LS-100 as well as Fortin's stuff.

Agreed. 1800 is about what I wanted to spend. I had no idea they were that expensive now but I'm still interested.

What about the Friedman stuff? He's done some work for players whose tone I really like. Didn't he mod Billy Howerdel's (A Perfect Circle) amp? That guy had amazing live tone IMO.

I'm sort of grey on what Friedman's mods sound like, but I'm sure a bunch of the other guys here can chime in. Honestly the information seems scattered all over the place and I sort of got tired trying to figure what was what and which mod I'd be interested in. That said there is a forum for him on here and Dave posts to the boards, so I could have done that or emailed him

Hear is the deal bro.....

My cost for my Fortin was as follows:

$900 early 90s SLP no loop
$500 for the Cali mod
$350 for the tube buffered loop......ton of work hense the price tag but damn fine loop
$180 shipping

$1930 total.

The Bones is around $2400 bucks and is so much more heavy duty construction wise it is not funny. I dont even you could damage that amp and you get Mike's own spec trannies that are da shit.
