Something to go in front of an 800 for killer gain?

My question was more about is it better to put OD before or after EQ...

OK. I put the EQ pedal first, then the od and then straight to the amp. And I used a Danelectro fish n chips..cheap quiet and transparent. Better than the GEQ 7 and MXR pedals..both were noisy.

As several have said, if he is staying with the Marshall, he should boost the front end and eq the loop. Add a decimator just before the return to get rid of the noise. IMO boost the mids and the output on the pedal before the input of the amp. Scoop the mids on the amps tone stack. Taylor the eq in the loop to taste. Stand around afterward and talk shit about how much heavier you are than that local band you hate.

Old thread. Trey from Morbid Angel used a Rat pedal into a Marshall as well.

You'd be surprised at how well a Metal Zone works as a boost in front on a jcm800! Keep the eq section on pedal all at 12 o'clock, level way up, drive at 0. It makes any low to mid gain amp very heavy sounding and gives it a sharp attack. It's a very aggressive tone that works well for the brutal stuff.

Black Arts Toneworks Witch Burner sounds amazing with a Marshall. It is like a Tubescreamer , but covers so much more as far as tones. It also tightens up the bass without taking it away.

I can't find the source for the Obituary recordings (it's out there I wasn't just making things up) but I did find another stating Trevor always used the rat and Marshall's

Saw Obituary at Maryland Deathfest last month, Trevor was boosting an 800 with a Rat and sounded really brutal.
