Soon there won't be any Mesa Boogie's left.

Danny's just grumpy 'cause his Mark V didnt turn out to be all he wanted...

Ding! Ding! Ding!......I think we have a winner!!!

Danny appears to be "grumpy" in every post he makes from my perspective............ But hey, I would too if I was from Jersey!

You must only focus on my negative side as I have plenty of cheerleader in me.

All I know is if I want anything British voiced I don't want any Mesa interpretation or product, at all.

Im usually inclined to think that way but the Mesa Stilletto has always had me wondering. Practically every clip that I have ever heard from that amp ( the second version ) was amazing so much so that I really wanted and still want to try one. It really seemed to have the best of Mesa and Marshall in one package..

One of these days...

They're tricky to dial in but they sound good LOUD. With a boost and some delay in the loop Andy Reid here gets a good modded tone. I remember this was posted before and plenty of guys thought it sounded Cameronish. For around $1,000 it's not a bad deal.

All I know is...not sure if amps would be what they are today without Randall Smith. I'm not a mesa fanboy but gotta give credit where credit is due

It's a fact that if you take a mesa circuit and put it in a Marshall headshell, it instantly sounds 10x better

As long as it Purple, please try and keep up....
Oh yeah...them purple ones are gooood

Marshall based tone stacks just cut better, fact.

Digi, you know I love you but... I have to disagree with this statement. I have never played a Marshall (and I've owned several over the years) that cut as well as the Mark IV. And this is based off of years of playing live with both Marshalls and Boogies.

IMO I think they're trying to cater to a broader range of guitarist.
I don't think they wanna sound like Marshall or anybody else for that matter. They know 6L6 based amps don't cut like an EL34 based amp,so why not build one that's brighter.
However I wish they'd come out with an EL34 based high gain metal amp.
This coming from a Mesa fan and 6L6 lover.

A 6L6 can cut like nobody's business, look at the 5150.

I'll take ANY new Mesa over the crap Marshall has been putting out any day. Geez, wasn't it like 1982 when marshall made their last best amp?

Out of curiosity, have you seen the build quality on any of the new Marshalls? Their quality keeps getting better, and the Mesa stuff has been going downhill... the choke on my Fortin Natas is bigger than the output transformers in the new Rectos/Road King/Roadster, and I'm not even exaggerating

The JVM is one hell of an amp, especially for the price. Marshall isn't slacking any longer.

I wonder who makes Marshall's transformers now.

Dagnall/Clairtronic shut down operations in 2009 and were producing them in a factory in Malta I read?

But some other business entity purchased the Dagnall name and their manufacturing equipment apparently.

Compression is the killer of cut.

Good marshalls are not compressed.

Interesting point.

What is it exactly about compression, that suppresses "cut"?

Ya... Let's ask David Gilmour why his solo w/ mass compression on "Money", didn't cut.

Really? I think Mesa is still making quality stuff, it's just that they have a lot more amps out there now so there's more a chance their being used out there will break and you'll hear about it. How many idiots put a beer ontop of an amp and wonder why it's smoking a few days later?

I know the JVM gets love around here but all i got from that amp was that it has LOT of gain but I didn't really like the way it sounded. Like TAG said once, " tons of gain from JVM all at the expense of tone"

But that same Mark that wasn't all he wanted was all that I wanted. Different strokes I guess....

You know when I got the V I wasn't impressed with it at all. Then over the past few years I've played a few in some of the GC's that sounded killer while others sounded egh. There's been a few threads about this and others have had the same experience as me. Apparently Mesaa did make a change at around SN# 2,000.

Go grab a mesa and a good 800 or modded SL start playing, all I can really offer you.

I like Mesa, owned a MK IV for 6 years so no fanboi direction on my part.

That's great if that works for you. However those are amps that were designed decades ago. There's not a single Marshall I'd care to own that's made right now. I'd much rather have a Stiletto, Royal Atlantic, or ED. They all do British sounds better, and are far more versatile than either of which you mentioned.

Different strokes, I guess.

Can you point me to some threads where people have been complaining about the reliability and/or construction of Mesa amps? Because I haven't really seen any.

Agreed. To put Mesa and unreliable in the same sentence is laughable. ;)

  <Laugh

But seriously, I haven't had any troubles with my boogies. The only trouble I am having, is with my .50 caliber plus because it started to hum. It went 20 years without ever going to the tech, or getting a re cap.

I have never heard anyone complaining about mesa quality.
