Sooooooo... I received a guitar yesterday shipped .. No box

I once bought an amp off of a guy from harmony central. It was just the combo in a form fitted box. No padding of any kind. One of the feet broke off but that was it... Surprisingly.

How much effort would it be to just wrap cardboard around the thing? Even if it's not in great box.

I'd at least try to hid the fact that it's a guitar, even though it's pretty obvious.

That's how some moron shipped my purple custom Suhr Modern to me all the way from Norway. I was sure the neck pocket would be cracked but to much suprise it was alright.

The nice GG case was damaged though.

I received an LP once (OK it was an Agile LP) in the cheap triangular box that guitars sometimes come in with 2 unused diapers inside as packing material. Still amazed that the head stock wasn't broken off.

It will be fine, you don't need a case for your case for your guitar for the same reason I don't wear 2 condoms

I'm sorry, it's just unacceptable. Here's how I look at it: I pack not only for the guitar's protection but my own as well.

1) Secure the guitar from movement in the case.
2) Use a Uline or manufacturers guitar box.
3) Make sure the guitar is suspended in the box (doesn't touch the top or bottom).
4) Secure the guitar from movement in the box. Formular works great.

May cost *ME* an extra $12 but guarantees against *most* issues during shipping and shows that part of the transaction on both sides is driven by good will, as it should be.

Glad it got to you safely!

Agreed. You're paying for the case too. Why is it OK if that gets scuffed up and dinged on the way?

I usually save a guitar box for a future packing project if I sell one. Guitars are so personal, I usually refrain from selling unless its local. Too many people get it and are unhappy, and want to return it for unwarranted reasons. But even GC will ship in shitty packaging, without loosening the Floyd nut and strings. How about Suhr and others shipping a 2K guitar in a BOX without a case???? Crazy.....

Really? Im sure its fine and those cases are meant for that. If it was a gibson type case with a vintage gibson I would be concerned. If its a high end bolt on super strat then he should have informed you that he has no box. If its a $600 straty guitar then no biggie as 99% of time it will be fine

i had an amp shipped once in no box, just layer upon lay of plastic wrap. looked like a giant football. it arrived in perfect shape.

i saw it and freaked. went to work with a utility knife and.....perfect.

I finally got a chance to sit down with the guitar. Nothing fancy or crazy... It's an Ibanez rga121 loaded with Seymour Duncan Black Winter pickups. Here's a pic:

Here's the bad:

I inspected the guitar after I took it out if the case. Seemed like there wasn't any major damage from shipping but there is a good amount of wear that the seller didn't disclose. There was some slight bumps and dings dispersed around the neck and body. The strings were completely rusted. The guitar was completely unplayable when I took it out of the case. I spent a good amount of time cleaning the fretboard I'm getting all the gunk off. After putting a new set of strings and lowering the action a bit she plays great.

However, the biggest letdown is that the electronics are messed up. When going between positions one and five, the guitar volume completely dropped out. I opened it up and the wiring looks funky. Kind of hard to follow. I emailed the seller about it and he said that The volume only dropped out on him once or twice. He never bothered to fix it because it didn't happen often. But for me, it was pretty bad.

Although I've gotten pretty handy with a soldering iron, I'm a dad of a 2 and a half year old and twin 4 month olds. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to take it apart and try to rewire it. I'm lucky if I get 20 min to play a week.

I got in touch with the seller and he refunded me a decent amount of cash from the original purchase. It's an inconvenience but I should be able to take it to a tech to sort out... Hopefully

All in all, I think she will be great. Once I get the electronics fixed up

I had two of those. That one and the dark one. I think I had the Liquifier set in one and a Tone Zone and MoJoe in the other.
Congrats.

I have the same guitar in the aresenal. I think it's one of ibanez's best models. I put a tone zone in the bridge and it sounds great. Congrats.
